Greenway Arts Alliance to Present THE HOUSE ON MANGO STREET

Greenway Arts Alliance will present THE HOUSE ON MANGO STREET, adapted for stage by award-winning playwright Amy Ludwig (2006 LA Weekly Theater Award for 'Best Adaptation' of The House on Mango Street) and directed by Alexandra Meda (Artistic Director of Chicago's Teatro Luna).

Other Theatre's THE MAKING OF A MODERN FOLK HERO to Premiere at Chicago Dramatists

Other Theatre, in association with Chicago Dramatists' Grafting Project, will launch its 4th season with the world premiere of Martin Zimmerman's comedic graphic novel for the stage THE MAKING OF A MODERN FOLK HERO, directed by Kelly Howe, playing September 29 - October 29, 2017 at Chicago Dramatists, 1105 W. Goodman Theatre Teams with Alphawood Gallery for 'I AM THE DARKER BROTHER' Writing Workshop Series

Goodman Theatre will continue its collaboration with Chicago's Alphawood Gallery with the new writing workshop series, "I am the Darker Brother: Demonization and the Demise of Civil Liberties," this fall. Led by Chicago-based teaching artist Deb Lewis, participants use Langston Hughes' poem, "I, Too" as inspiration to explore what being an "American" means, and the responsibilities that freedom of speech engender.

LUNA GALE Comes to Aurora Theatre Next Month

Aurora Theatre Company opens its 26th season with Rebecca Gilman's (Blue Surge, Spinning Into Butter, The Sweetest Swing in Baseball) LUNA GALE. Aurora Artistic Director Tom Ross directs this powerful and arresting Bay Area Premiere, featuring Jamie Jones (Edward Albee's A Delicate Balance, Mud Blue Sky, Gideon's Knot), Laura Jane Bailey (Mud Blue Sky), Devin S. O'­Brien (Mud Blue Sky), Joshua Marx (TheatreWorks), Alix Cuadra (Theatre of Yugen), Kevin Kemp (Shotgun Players), and Jennifer Vega.  LUNA GALE plays September 1 through October 1 at the Aurora Theatre in Berkeley. People's Light Fosters Civic Dialogue through Play Reading Series

Community Matters at People's Light aims to spark conversation about relevant issues in the community with a diverse array of perspectives and voices. Performed readings of new plays are the centerpiece of each evening, followed by a discussion with community partners, special guests, artists, and audiences. Greenhouse Theater Center Announces MC-10 PLAYWRIGHTS ENSEMBLE

Greenhouse Theater Center (GTC) and Artistic Director Jacob Harvey are pleased to announce the formation of the new MC-10 Playwrights Ensemble, a collection of ten of the country's most sought-after established and mid-career Chicago playwrights and theatre-makers. The ensemble will be in residence at the Greenhouse Theater Center and will create new works for its stages. Beginning with the 2018-19 season, the Greenhouse will present one play per season by MC-10 member playwrights, eventually expanding to two MC-10 productions per season. These world and regional premieres aim to expand the scope, diversity and visibility of work happening at the Greenhouse and underscore the institution's commitment to creating new vital works for the American theatrical canon.

Aurora Theatre Company Announces OLGA: A FAREWELL CONCERT

Berkeley's Aurora Theatre Company announces a special limited engagement,OLGA: a farewell concert, a devised piece created by Beth Wilmurt (The Letters, The Eccentricities of a Nightingale,Jack Goes Boating, Bosoms and Neglect, and Salome.) and Her Band, commissioned by Aurora as part of the company'sOriginate + Generate (O+G) new works initiative to promote the creation of forward-looking theater.

Goodman Theatre Holds Free Student-Performed Showcases for its Summer Youth Programs

More than 60 Chicagoland teenagers will perform in two final showcases at Goodman Theatre to conclude the theater's summer programming-Playbuild Youth Intensive and Musical Theater Intensive-on August 11 and 12 at 7pm. Both programs were offered free of charge and taught over a course of seven-to-eight weeks in the Alice Rapoport Center for Education and Engagement ("the Alice"). This year's theme, "What it Means to be an American," uses Langston Hughes' poem "I too, Sing America" as inspiration. The final performances are scheduled for Friday, August 11 and Saturday, August 12 at 7pm at Goodman Theatre (170 N. Dearborn). Goodman to Offer Free NOURISH Workshops for Community Leaders, Activists

This summer, Goodman Theatre and the Center for Performance and Civic Practice (CPCP) present four one-day capacity building workshops focused on creative change tactics for members of Chicago's communities. These sessions are part of NOURISH-a multi-year initiative between the Goodman and CPCP to develop a greater capacity for arts-based community-led transformation-led by Walter Director of Education and Engagement Willa J. Taylor (Goodman Theatre) and Michael Rohd (Founding Artist/Director of CPCP/Sojourn Theatre).
