Today in 2003, the first Broadway revival of Nine opened at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, where it ran for 283 performances. Nine is a musical with a book by Arthur Kopit, music and lyrics by Maury Yeston. The story is based on Federico Fellini's semi-autobiographical film 8½. It focuses on film director Guido Contini, who is dreading his imminent 40th birthday and is facing a midlife crisis, which is blocking his creative impulses and entangling him in a web of romantic difficulties in early-1960s Venice. The original Broadway production opened in 1982 and ran for 729 performances, starring Raul Julia. The musical won five Tony Awards, including best musical, and has enjoyed a number of revivals.

The Garden Theatre (160 West Plant Street) is pleased to announce its signature event, Garden Encore! presented by Orlando Health, this weekend, March 4-6, 2016. Roundabout Theatre Company, in association with Daryl Roth Productions, presents the first-ever New York revival of Alfred Uhry and Robert Waldman's musical comedy THE ROBBER BRIDEGROOM. The production begins preview performances Off-Broadway tonight, February 18, 2016, and opens officially on March 13, 2016 at the Laura Pels Theatre in the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre (111 West 46th Street). This will be a limited engagement through May 29, 2016.

Drifting toward a nervous breakdown, Contini falls into nostalgic reverie, eventually focusing on the formative sexual encounter of his life, which occurred at the age of nine.

Roundabout Theatre Company, in association with Daryl Roth Productions, just announced the full cast joining Steven Pasquale in the first-ever New York revival of Alfred Uhry and Robert Waldman's musical comedy THE ROBBER BRIDEGROOM. Joining the previously announced Steven Pasquale as 'Jamie Lockhart' is Andrew Durand as 'Little Harp,' Evan Harrington as 'Big Harp,' Greg Hildreth as 'Goat,' Leslie Kritzer as 'Salome,' Ahna O'Reilly as 'Rosamund,' Nadia Quinn as 'Raven/Goat's Mother,' Lance Roberts as 'Clement Musgrove' and Devere Rogers as 'Airie/Man.'

Migenes' performance was like taking a step back to the 1930s, watching the remarkable Lotte Lenya performing her husband's songs during the time he collaborated with Bertolt Brecht to create atonal melodies meant to shock audiences into realizing the masses were, like today, being controlled by the wealthy, upper 1% of society. "Lotte Lenya herself came backstage after I performed Mahagonny and gave me a rose," Migenes says. "That is one of my most precious memories." No doubt the two women were connected to their souls, given how Migenes interpreted her songs.
