Norman Lear appeared 'live' via video hook up after the Gold Coast International Film Festival's screening of the documentary of his life, Just Another Version of You. Caroline Sorokoff director of the Film Festival interviewed Mr. Lear who was in LA. but his daughter NYC based Kate Lear was present to reminisce about 'life with father' at the talk back. After telling the packed audience at the Bow Tie Great Neck Squire Theater how much he loved his daughter Kate, Mr. Lear had some fascinating recollections to to share with director Sorokoff about his past and present career. Kate Lear is a writer, theater producer and arts advocate. She co-directs the Frances Lear Foundation and over the past decade has supported organizations working on behalf of disadvantaged youth, first amendment and voter protection rights, mental health advocacy and women's issues. It was a rare opportunity for the Long Island audience to see a definitive chronicle of Mr. Lear's life work and achievements. Famed documentarians Rachel Grady and Heidi Ewing had seized the opportunity to fashion a dynamic portrait in their film, which matches the spirit of probably the most influential creator, writer and producer in television history. Mr. Lear's legendary 1970s shows such as All in the Family, Maude, Good Times, and The Jeffersons, boldly cracked open dialogue and shifted the national consciousness, injecting enlightened humanism into sociopolitical debates on race, class, creed, and feminism.

Sundance Institute has selected 25 projects to participate in its Screenwriters Lab, Documentary Edit and Story Labs and new Theatre-Makers Residency, which will take place concurrently this summer in the mountains of the Sundance Resort in Utah. The confluence of these three artist development programs will provide Fellows the unprecedented opportunity to experience portions of the other Labs and will support a cross-pollination of creativity and personal expression across different storytelling forms.

The first film in the new MAKERS series, MAKERS: Women in Comedy, will premiere on Tuesday, September 30 at 9pm ET/PT on PBS. MAKERS: Women in Comedy tracks the rise of women in the world of comedy, from the “dangerous” comedy of '70s sitcoms like Maude to the groundbreaking women of the 1980s American comedy club boom and building to today's multifaceted landscape. ESPN Films and espnW have announced the film slate for Nine for IX, a documentary series focused on captivating stories of women in sports told through the lens of female filmmakers. Nine for IX film topics include an intimate look at Pat Summitt, college sports' most successful coach ever, the largely unknown history of Katarina Witt and her link with East Germany's secret police, and the focus of sex in the marketing of female athletes. The series is scheduled to premiere on July 2 on ESPN and the films will air over consecutive Tuesday evenings at 8pm ET.

Sundance Institute announced today 19 members of five juries awarding prizes at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, January 17-27 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah. Short Film Awards will be announced at a ceremony on January 22 at Park City's Jupiter Bowl, with feature film awards announced at a separate ceremony on January 26.
