Author Paula Gelbach Celebrates Children's Uniqueness in New Book

"…You are a marvel. You are unique. In all the years that have passed, there has never been another child like you. Your legs, your arms, your clever fingers, the way you move. You may become a Shakespeare, a Michelangelo, a Beethoven. You have the capacity for anything. Yes, you are a marvel…" These compelling words of Pablo Picasso, addressed to all unique children, gleefully echo within the colorful pages of the newly published storybook of seasoned educator and children's fiction author Paula E. Gelbach, titled It's OK !! Everybody's Different.

4th Annual Art Project LA to Benefit AIDS Project LA, 6/28-30

The Fourth Annual ART PROJECT LOS ANGELES, featuring an art auction and red carpet reception, will benefit AIDS Project Los Angeles. The three-day event at the beautifully-renovated Bonhams includes live and silent auctions known to feature works by Basquiat, Ruscha, Warhol, and more. TBTB to Stage Bruce Graham's ACCORDING TO GOLDMAN at Theatre Row, Beg. 4/6

Off-Broadway's Theater Breaking Through Barriers (TBTB) continues its 33rd Season with the Off-Broadway premiere of ACCORDING TO GOLDMAN by Bruce Graham (THE OUTGOING TIDE, ANY GIVEN MONDAY), with previews set to begin April 6, prior to its official press opening April 14, at Theatre Row's Clurman Theatre (410 West 42nd Street). TBTB artistic director and founder Ike Schambelan directs.

League of Chicago Theatres Gala to Honor Jeff Perry, the Jeff Committee and Michael Halberstam

The League of Chicago Theatres announces the 2013 Spring Gala, an elegant, extravagant evening celebrating the 175th Anniversary of Chicago theater. This one-night-only event brings together supporters from the community to champion more than 200 Chicago theatre companies. This year's event will be held on Monday, May 20, 2013, at 5:30 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the luxury hotel InterContinental Chicago, 505 N. Michigan Avenue, Chicago.

The three cast members of My Name is Asher Lev come to 92YTribeca on Thursday, March 28 for a conversation about this highly-praised new play based on the best-selling novel by Chaim Potok (author of The Chosen). The cast will also perform a few of their favorite excerpts from the show.

Featured Art Exhibition: 'The Artist and the Poet' at Art Institute of Chicago

Planned to coincide with the Art Institute's major exhibition Picasso and Chicago, this presentation from the Department of Prints and Drawings is inspired by the modern master's love of poetry-Picasso was close friends with poets, including Max Jacob, Guillaume Apollinaire, Andre Breton, and Paul Eluard, and collaborated with them from his earliest days in Paris. Taking Picasso's passion as a jumping-off point, this collection of works on paper surveys the myriad ways visual artists have been inspired by or collaborated with poets in the 20th century.

After opening to critical acclaim, My Name is Asher Lev, the hit play adapted from the novel by Chaim Potok (The Chosen) at The Westside Theatre (407 W. 43rd Street) has just announced that it will extend its run for the third time, through September 1, 2013.

Meijer Gardens' “Butterflies Are Blooming” Exhibition Highlights Exotic Butterflies From Four Continents

Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park's 18th annual "Butterflies Are Blooming" exhibition will bring more than 6,000 tropical butterflies to West Michigan. Arriving from Africa, Asia, South and Central America, over 40 colorful species will fly freely in the five-story Lena Meijer Tropical Conservatory. A visitor favorite, this popular exhibition opens March 1 and runs through April 30.

Philadelphia Theatre Company Announces Winner Of The Second Annual Terrence McNally New Play Award

Philadelphia Theatre Company has announced A. ZELL WILLIAMS as the recipient of the Terrence McNally New Play Award for the research and development of his play The Urban Retreat about a teacher whose writing career has taken a detour at the request of a former student-turned-Hip-Hop superstar. The Terrence McNally New Play Award is a $10,000 cash prize given annually to recognize a new play that celebrates the transformative power of art. The Award will also include a year of development support at PTC, including readings as well as administrative support and networking to help manage the future of the play beyond its time at PTC.
