Westport Country Playhouse to Host 'Art Is Everywhere' Events

"Where do you see art in your world" is a question that Westport Country Playhouse is asking as the theater presents a series of "Art Is Everywhere" events and exhibits around the 2016 Season opening productions of "Art" and "Red," two Tony Award-winning plays performed in repertory (alternating daily), May 3 - 29.

BWW Interview: Daniel Ezralow

Pearl (www.PearlTheShow.com), a new American-Chinese dance-theatre spectacular, inspired by the life of Pearl S. Buck, the first woman to win both the Nobel and the Pulitzer Prizes, will have its world premiere at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center for 4 performances only, August 27-30th. The story, focusing on the substantial influence Pearl had on both Chinese and Western cultures, will be brought to life through new choreography by Daniel Ezralow (Ezralow Dance Company, MOMIX, Sochi Olympics Opening Ceremony, Academy Awards), a new score composed by Jun Miyake (collaborations with Robert Wilson, Pina Bausch, David Byrne and Oliver Stone) dazzling visuals and a company of 30 American and Chinese dancers.

David P. Thiele Is the New Managing Director of David H. Koch Theater

New York City Ballet announced today that David P. Thiele has been appointed Managing Director of the David H. Koch Theater, and he will begin his position on July 27, 2015. Thiele, who has spent nearly 30 years working in the performing arts world, has been the Vice President of Facilities and Operations at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia since 2009.

MINIMUS 3D ARKESTRA Plays 13th Street Repertory Theatre, Now thru 7/30

Thanks to new technologies, artists can now make 3D films and play them like melodic, texture-based visual instruments in real time, performing in duets with acoustic musicians. A new genre of collaborative performance is in the making, as demonstrated in 'Minimus 3D Arkestra,' a visual-sonic concert by Ikuo Nakamura (film) and Hayes Greenfield (sax/voice/effects rig). This pioneering fusion of disciplines will be revealed in a five-week run, today, June 30 to July 30, at the intimate 13th Street Repertory Theatre, 50 West 13th Street.

MoMA Announces New Exhibitions and Events in April

In conjunction with the exhibition Latin America in Construction: Architecture 1955–1980, Learning from/in Latin America will expand on the exhibition's curatorial framework and further explore key positions, debates, and architectural activity arising from Mexico to Cuba and the Southern Cone over three decades of development between 1955 and the early 1980s.

MoMA and MoMA PS1 Announce Young Architects Program 2015

The Museum of Modern Art and MoMA PS1 announce Andres Jaque/Office for Political Innovation as the winner of the annual Young Architects Program (YAP) in New York. Now in its 16th edition, the Young Architects Program at MoMA and MoMA PS1 has been committed to offering emerging architectural talent the opportunity to design and present innovative projects, challenging each year's winners to develop creative designs for a temporary, outdoor installation at MoMA PS1 that provides shade, seating, and water. The architects must also work within guidelines that address environmental issues, including sustainability and recycling. Andres Jaque, drawn from among five finalists, will design a temporary urban landscape for the 2015 Warm Up summer music series in MoMA PS1's outdoor courtyard.

MoMA Names Martino Stierli as Chief Curator of Architecture and Design

Glenn D. Lowry, Director of The Museum of Modern Art, announced today the appointment of Martino Stierli as The Philip Johnson Chief Curator of Architecture and Design. Mr. Stierli is currently the Swiss National Science Foundation Professor at the Institute of Art History of the University of Zurich, where he teaches the history of modern architecture. In his new role, he will oversee Department of Architecture and Design's wide-ranging program of special exhibitions, installations from the collection, and acquisitions. He succeeds Barry Bergdoll, who stepped down in 2013 to become the Meyer Schapiro Professor of Art History in the Department of Art History and Archaeology at Columbia University, and who remains a part-time curator at MoMA. Mr. Stierli's appointment begins in March 2015.

MoMA and MoMA PS1's 2014 Youth Architects Program Opens Today in the Courtyard

Hy-Fi, the winning project of The Museum of Modern Art and MoMA PS1's 2014 Young Architects Program, opens today, June 27 in the MoMA PS1 courtyard. A circular tower of organic and reflective bricks that uses biological technologies combined with cutting-edge computation and engineering, the structure is made of biodegradable material and was created through a new method of bio-design conceived by its designer, David Benjamin of the New York-based architects The Living. It will remain on view through September 7.

New York City Ballet's Spring 2014 Gala Features Sufjan Stevens, CAROUSEL and Kristen Bell Tonight

New York City Ballet hosts its 2014 Spring Gala tonight, May 8 at 7pm, featuring a special one-time-only program designed by NYCB's Ballet Master in Chief Peter Martins to pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of the opening of the New York State Theater (now the David H. Koch Theater) at Lincoln Center, as well as celebrate its future with a World Premiere ballet by choreographer Justin Peck and composer Sufjan Stevens.

According to Glass House Director Henry Urbach, Philip Johnson's iconic masterpiece offers 'the dream of transparency, an architecture that vanishes.' Beginning in May, this 'vanishing architecture' will itself disappear every hour on the hour under an ephemeral atmospheric veil conjured by renowned artist Fujiko Nakaya.

Queens Celebrates 50th Anniversary Of 1964 World's Fair with Tours of New York State Pavilion

NYC Parks' Queens Commissioner Dorothy Lewandowski today joined Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, Assemblywoman Margaret Markey and National Trust for Historic Preservation board member Paul Goldberger to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the opening ceremony of the 1964-65 World's Fair and announce that Flushing Meadows Corona Park's New York State Pavilion, one of the most iconic remnants of the 1964 World's Fair, has been named as one of the Trust's "National Treasures." The National Treasures program recognizes historically, culturally and architecturally important sites to raise awareness and funding for their preservation. The Pavilion is one of only 44 sites in the country to bear this designation.
