Rooftop Films Screens Short Film Program and TWENTY FEET FROM STARDOM Tonight

Rooftop films has announced its upcoming events and screenings for June 2013. Tonight, June 7, Rooftop presents a night of eerie and mysterious short films. Preceding the shorts, world-renowned pianist Bruce Levingston will perform Phillip Glass' 'Dracula' over a presage of short films.

Bang on a Can Marathon Announces Schedule Update - 9 Hours of Free Live Music in NYC

On Sunday, June 16, from 1pm to 10pm, Bang on a Can returns to downtown Manhattan for its annual Bang on a Can Marathon, FREE for the public at Pace University's Schimmel Center for the Arts (3 Spruce Street), presented by River To River Festival and Bang on a Can, and co-presented by Pace University. The Marathon is part of the opening weekend of River To River Festival, kicking off the month-long celebration of free music, dance, film, and arts events. The extensive renovation of Brookfield Place temporarily impacts the presentation of large-scale events in the Winter Garden, where the Marathon has been held for several years. This year the Marathon will embrace the intimate Pace setting to present a few dramatically quiet and tender musical offerings before returning to the Winter Garden's wide-open spaces in 2014.

Cornelia Street Cafe Presents THE LIFE I'M LEADING: MUSIC OF DANIEL FELSENFELD Tonight

Cornelia Street Cafe presents CCi's Serial Underground featuring The Life I'm Leading: Music of Daniel Felsenfeld including several premieres tonight, June 2nd at 6pm. Guest Artists include flutists Meerenai Shim (California based), Jessica Schmitz and Sarah Carrier, pianists Blair McMillen and Mila Henry, cellist Rose Bellini, soprano Marcy Richardson and violist Stephanie Griffin.

Playwright Nell Benjamin and Explorer Sylvia Earle Set for Talk After MTC's THE EXPLORERS CLUB, 5/31

On Friday, May 31, Tony nominated writer Nell Benjamin and legendary deep-sea explorer Sylvia Earle - one of the first women admitted to the real Explorers Club in New York - will engage in a conversation to talk about their experiences in their respective fields, following the 8 PM performance of Manhattan Theatre Club's world premiere production of THE EXPLORERS CLUB, a madcap comedy now in previews at MTC at New York City Center - Stage I (131 West 55th Street). The conversation will be moderated by Peabody Award-winning journalist and author Lynn Sherr.

Classic Stage Company's THE CAUCASIAN CHALK CIRCLE, Starring Christopher Lloyd, Opens Tonight Off-Broadway

Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, presents Bertolt Brecht's THE CAUCASIAN CHALK CIRCLE featuring Christopher Lloyd (Azdak), directed by Brian Kulick (who directed Brecht's Galileo last season), and featuring new music by Tony Award-winning singer/songwriter Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening). The show was recently extended for two additional weeks through Sunday, June 23. The official opening is tonight, May 30.?

NY PHIL BIENNIAL to Run Through June 7 at Lincoln Center Campus

From May 28 to June 7, 2014, the New York Philharmonic will present the inaugural NY PHIL BIENNIAL, a kaleidoscopic exploration of today's music by a wide range of contemporary and modern composers that will showcase an array of curatorial voices through concerts presented with partners in venues both on and off the Lincoln Center campus.

Steinway Hall to Present Pianist Katie Reimer, 6/11

Steinway Hall presents pianist, Katie Reimer, in a solo tour featuring music by J.S. Bach, Johannes Brahms, and living composers Daniel Bernard Roumain and Mohammed Fairouz. The program will open with two Preludes and Fugues from J.S. Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 1, each intended for a different keyboard instrument, one harpsichord (G Major), and another, organ (Eb minor). This will be followed by Johannes Brahms' poetic suite, Klavierstucke, Op. 118, a work composed late in his life, and dedicated to Clara Schumann.

Long Beach Opera to Stage Ernest Bloch's MACBETH, Beg. 6/15

Long Beach Opera (LBO) closes its 2013 season with Macbeth, Swiss-American composer Ernest Bloch's re-discovered powerhouse, sung in English. Performances at the World Cruise Center in San Pedro, CA. begin on June 15, 2013 and continue on June 22 and 23.

Cinedigm Picks Up VISITORS from Godfrey Reggio, Philip Glass, & Jon Kane

Cinedigm (CIDM) has acquired all North American distribution rights to 'VISITORS,' the new film from director Godfrey Reggio, composer Philip Glass and filmmaker Jon Kane. Seven years in the making, VISITORS is the fourth film that Reggio and Glass have collaborated on following the groundbreaking, internationally acclaimed, Qatsi Trilogy formed by the films Koyaanisqatsi, Powaqqatsi, and Naqoyqatsi. Cinedigm plans to release VISITORS theatrically in 4K throughout Fall 2013 following its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival where members of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra will perform Glass's score live.

Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival Opens the 81st Season with Dance Theatre of Harlem, 6/19

Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH), the groundbreaking and newly revitalized classical and contemporary ballet company, will open the 2013 Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival season in the Ted Shawn Theatre June 19-23. Led by founding member and former principal dancer, Artistic Director Virginia Johnson, the company will present a range of classic and new ballet work including George Balanchine's Agon, The Lark Ascending by Alvin Ailey, and Far But Close by Canadian contemporary choreographer John Alleyne.

LaMaMa Presents the World Premiere of FALSE SOLUTION, Beginning 6/13

FALSE SOLUTION, a world-premiere play about an architect's struggle to design a Holocaust museum in Poland, written and directed by Oren Safdie, will be presented Off-Broadway with previews starting Thursday, June 13, 2013 (prior to an official press opening night on June 16th) at La MaMa (74A East 4th Street) in Manhattan. The production runs through Sunday, June 30.

Smuin Ballet Brings New Works PETAL, JAZZIN' and More to Bay Area, Beg. Today

Smuin Ballet ends its season with an invigorating lineup of fresh choreography, presenting the West Coast premiere of the bright ballet Petal by acclaimed choreographer Helen Pickett, set to music by Philip Glass and Thomas Montgomery Newman. In addition, Bay Area audiences will get their first look at Darrell Grand Moultrie's JAZZIN', a sultry ballet set to music by Wynton Marsalis, Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, and Andy Razaf. The bill also includes Michael Smuin's romantic and pastoral Chants d'Auvergne. Smuin Ballet's Spring Program will play today, May 10-19 at San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, May 22-26 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, May 31-June 1 at Walnut Creek's Lesher Center for the Arts, and June 7-8 at Carmel's Sunset Center.
