The most wonderful time of the year rolls into Coronado Playhouse featuring the locally written holiday hit, Mistletoe, Music & Mayhem! With book by Matt Thompson and Phil Johnson and music and lyrics by Rayme Sciaroni, this musical mish mash of sketches and original songs cures the holiday blues and puts you on the right list with Santa. Mistletoe, Music & Mayhem is staged in our intimate cabaret style theatre with performances to fit any holiday schedule playing weekends December 11-December 21, 2014. The show runs approximately 85 minutes and is performed without intermission.

Cygnet Theatre Season 12 got off to a rollicking start with the return of audience favorite and off-Broadway hit, Pageant, just in time for summer fun. James Vasquez directed and choreographed this hilarious mash-up of a beauty pageant and a drag musical that let's audience members decide who is crowned the winner. The talented and funny David McBean returned as Miss Deep South and Phil Johnson reprised his role as the wacky master of ceremonies. With Book and Lyrics by Bill Russell (Side Show) and Frank Kelly (The Texas Chainsaw Musical) and Music by Albert Evans, this crowd pleasing romp about beauty contestants ran over the summer. PAGEANT is back at the Cygnet Theatre and James Vasquez is happy to be the man that directs this new production. I was able to chat with him between rehearsals to chat about bringing the Glamouresse pageant back to the stage. PAGEANT is playing at the Cygnet Theatre through Sunday, August 31.

In Cygnet Theatre's hilarious production of the off-Broadway hit, Pageant, audience members help crown a different beauty contest winner each night. On July 20th, 7 PM, our Pageant contestants will have to perform for judges who really know their stuff! Miss California USA, Cassandra Kunze and Miss California Teen USA, Bianca Vierra will serve as Celebrity Judges and help evaluate our 'girls' on swimsuit, physical fitness, spokes model and beauty crisis counseling. They will also be on hand pre-show to sign autographs and pose for pictures.

Will Cooper's play 'Jade Heart' chronicles the journey of an infant girl, abandoned in China and brought to America by her adoptive single Caucasian mother.

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust announces live performances for the Music SPACE series summer concerts at SPACE gallery the last Friday of each month. These all-ages performances showcase a variety of unique sounds from musical talent in the Pittsburgh area. Tickets are $5 at the door. Doors open at 8 p.m., and shows begin at 8:30 p.m.

With the help of favorite local theatre artists, and community members, the San Diego nonprofit will present 100 consecutive hours of play and musical readings to break the Guinness World Record for Longest Marathon Theatrical Performance and celebrate Lamb's.

A musical now playing on Broadway, a coproduction between two San Diego theaters, a musical staged with a local high school and two homegrown festivals were honored by the San Diego Theatre Critics Circle Monday at its 2013 Craig Noel Awards.

Cygnet Theatre has announced a Season 12 lineup that reveals common threads of identity, redemption and 'what really makes a family.' Cygnet Artistic Director Sean Murray and Executive Director Bill Schmidt have assembled a package of plays and musicals for the 2014-2015 season that will take theater-goers on a typical Cygnet-style journey from campy musicals and great American plays to works by up-and-coming young playwrights and audience favorites.

Dominating the nominations in the musical category is the current Broadway sensation 'A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder,' which made its world premiere in February 2013 at San Diego's The Old Globe (a co-production with Hartford Stage). The musical racked up 11 nominations, including nods for New Musical, its versatile star Jefferson Mays (a UC San Diego alumnus) and its director Darko Tresnjak (former co-artistic director and Shakespeare Festival director at The Old Globe).
