Lantern Theater Company announces the addition of QED by Peter Parnell to its 2014/15 mainstage season, completing a line-up that also includes Tom Stoppard's theatrical masterpiece Arcadia, John Patrick Shanley's Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning Doubt: A Parable, William Shakespeare's classic comedy of the sexes The Taming of the Shrew, and Steven Canny and John Nicholson's inventive and brilliantly farcical adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Hound of the Baskervilles.
Lantern Theater Company closes their 20th anniversary season with the Philadelphia premiere of The Train Driver, one of South African playwright Athol Fugard's newest plays. This will be the Lantern's fourth production of works by the 2011 Tony Award-winner for Lifetime Achievement, including 'Master Harold'...and the boys in 2006, Sizwe Bansi Is Dead in 2009 and The Island in 2012. Charles Isherwood of The New York Times described The Train Driver as 'a moving portrait of a man coming to recognize the deep divisions that still plague his country, and makes a modest but eloquent addition to Mr. Fugard's oeuvre.' Directed by Matt Pfeiffer and starring respected Philadelphia veteran actor Peter DeLaurier as Roelf and Kirk Wendell Brown in his Lantern debut as Simon, performances run April 10 - May 4, 2014. People's Light & Theatre has announced its 40th Anniversary Season that celebrates the passion and artistry that created and sustained our company. The season includes one world premiere, two regional premieres, and one Philadelphia premiere. Nationally acclaimed artists Mary McDonnell, David Strathairn, and Victor Williams will join longtime company members and various newcomers on our stages. They will perform iconic works by August Wilson, Anton Chekhov, and Neil Simon, new plays by Bruce Graham, Bill Cain, and Jessica Dickey, and our new holiday panto by Pete Pryor and Samantha Bellomo. We will transport audiences to Merlin's Middle Ages, Ranyevskaya's changing Russia, 19th & 21st Century Gettysburg, and Lou's Bar in today's South Philly.

Last night, Theatre Philadelphia celebrated the past year in theatre across the region by presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award, cash awards totaling $56,500, and a masquerade after-party that featured performances of some of the highlights of the previous theatre season.
