The Royal Shakespeare Company, Louise Withers, Michael Coppel and Michael Watt announced today that Lucy Maunder will join the Australian company as Miss Honey for the Brisbane and Perth seasons of MATILDA THE MUSICAL.
Full casting is today announced for the world premiere of the new musical GROUNDHOG DAY, which previews at the Old Vic from July 11 with a press night on August 16. Carlyss Peer will play Rita Hanson, alongside the previously announced Andy Karl in the role of Phil Connors. The Tony Award® winning MATILDA THE MUSICAL will close on January 1, 2017, it was announced today. By then, it will have played 37 previews, 1,555 regular performances, and one Actors Fund performance. The production opened on April 11, 2013 (previews began March 4) at the Shubert Theatre (225 West 44th Street). MATILDA THE MUSICAL has paid back its $16 million investment on Broadway, making the show a rare hit simultaneously on Broadway and in London's West End.
Last night, Saturday 9 April 2016, after 4,600 performances and prior to the theatre's previously announced refurbishment programme, the final Victoria Palace Theatre performance of Billy Elliot The Musical took place in front of a packed house with guests including past and present Billy Elliots, original cast members and members of the show's creative team. The over 1530 strong audience rose to their feet for the curtain call to join the Company in celebrating a very special evening and a phenomenal eleven year run in the West End. Director Stephen Daldry, writer Lee Hall and composer Elton John joined the company on stage accompanied by 32 past and present Billy Elliots (the most Billy Elliots to ever appear on stage together), 24 past Michaels and 18 past Debbies as well as several adult members of the original Company.
An extra bunch of Billys will take the stage when the beloved Billy Elliot plays its final performance this Sunday at the Victoria Palace Theatre.

Watching Matilda the musical is like witnessing something as close to musical theatre perfection as you can get. The detail in this masterpiece is so intricate & refined. I'm still trying to find fault in the show, to give a balanced objective summation of the work. And yet as hard as I try I cannot think of a single moment that didn't work, a cast member out of place a or time where my mind wandered. Dennis Kelly's writing is brilliant Tim Minchin's lyric and score unconventionally perfect and Matthew Warchus' staging thrilling.
Frozen might not arrive on Broadway until 2018, but preparations for the stage musical are already beginning. According to an Equity casting notice, a developmental lab will be held this spring, with rehearsals running April 30 through May 13. Auditions commence for the roles of Anna (late teens to 20s) and Elsa (20s to early 30s) later this month. Auditions for the Denver and Broadway productions will not begin until summer 2016.

The producers of Billy Elliot the Musical are delighted to announce that the show will play its final London performance in support of East Durham Trust, a charity based in Easington, Co. Durham, a former mining town and the setting for Billy Elliot's iconic story. Tickets for the final performance will be released for sale today (Tuesday 1 March 2016, 2pm) via the Victoria Palace Theatre box office, with all proceeds from ticket sales for this performance being donated to East Durham Trust.
