Arcadia Performing Arts Foundation presents its second season at the Arcadia Performing Arts Center -- Three Dog Night on Saturday, January 10 at 8 pm; The Four Tops on Saturday, February 21 at 8 pm; Big Bad Voodoo Daddy on Friday, March 27 at 8 pm; The Muppet Movie Sing-a-Long on Saturday, May 16 at 2 pm and Dick Fox Doo Wop Extravaganza on Saturday, June 6 at 7 pm. This four concert season, and the additional attraction The Muppet Movie Sing-A-Long, is presented by the Arcadia Performing Arts Foundation and is a means of raising funds to support arts in the schools and maintain this new, state-of-the-art facility.
Berklee College of Music and Little Kids Rock have partnered with the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) to expand the district's Modern Band music program to an additional 60,000 students in 600 city schools. The Amp Up NYC initiative is the largest single private investment in a city's public school music education program in the history of the United States. The donated services and resources for this initiative are estimated at $10 million. Berklee College of Music and Little Kids Rock will contribute teacher training, Modern Band curriculum, and thousands of new musical instruments. Outside contributors include the Walker Family Foundation and Bohemian Foundation. The program is already live in more than 70 classrooms.

The New 42nd Street receives a five-year, $750,000 Arts Education Impact Grant from The Pierre and Tana Matisse Foundation to launch a rigorous new arts education program entitled "Schools with the Performing Arts Reach Kids," or New Victory SPARK (SPARK). Designed for arts-deprived New York City public schools, SPARK will introduce live performing arts to students, teachers and families in a customized and intensive arts education program via the resources and programs of the New Victory Education Department. In collaboration with research firm WolfBrown, SPARK will measure the intrinsic impact of students' experiences with the performing arts and the schools' success over time.

The BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange arts and artists in progress awards, now in their twelfth year, have been designed to honor individuals in the arts who have revealed and transformed our creative world. By instigating and enduring change they have deepened the definition of their field and paved the way for others. The awards have been given to some of the most talented, generous, creative and inventive individuals in NYC dance, theater or performance. Nominations for the 2013 awards were sought from over 100 past awardees, presenters and members of the field. Final selections will be announced no later than November 1, 2012.

Earlier today, Nick Jonas - the popular singer/songwriter who was most recently seen in the Tony-nominated How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying - served as master of ceremonies as hundreds of students from middle and intermediate New York City Public Schools in Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens and Manhattan made their Broadway debut on stage at the Shubert Theatre, the culminating event of the 7th annual Shubert Foundation/MTI Broadway JR. Student Program. The students performed a song from their school's production of a student version of a Broadway musical, including Annie JR., Once on this Island JR., Disney's Aladdin JR., Guys and Dolls JR., Bugsy Malone JR., Meredith Willson's The Music Man JR., Dear Edwina JR., Fame JR., Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka JR., and Thoroughly Modern Millie JR.
