Eighteen Musicians to Join Ensemble ACJW for Two-Year Fellowship Program

This season, a new group of eighteen musicians -- some of the finest professional players in the world -- will join Ensemble ACJW, a two-year fellowship program of Carnegie Hall, The Juilliard School, and the Weill Music Institute in partnership with the New York City Department of Education. Ensemble ACJW is designed to prepare young professional musicians for careers that combine musical excellence with teaching, community engagement, advocacy, and leadership. It offers performance opportunities, year-long partnerships within New York City public schools, and intensive professional development.

Ensemble ACJW Set for Series of Shows at Subculture, Begin. 1/22

Ensemble ACJW kicks off a new three-concert series this season at Greenwich Village venue Subculture on Wednesday, January 22 at 7:30 p.m. with an eclectic program, titled Encounters, that features interesting contemporary works and world premieres of new music, composed and/or arranged by the Ensemble ACJW fellows themselves.

David Robertson Conducts Ensemble ACJW with Soprano Dawn Upshaw Today

Today, December 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Zankel Hall, celebrated conductor David Robertson, music director of the St. Louis Symphony, leads Ensemble ACJW in a performance of Luciano Berio's Folk Songs featuring guest soprano Dawn Upshaw, who last performed the piece at Carnegie Hall in March 2004. ACJW's inventive program also includes Steve Reich's City Life, the composer's homage to his hometown of New York City, and Bartok's Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celesta.

Richard Tucker Tribute Set for NYC's Park East Synagogue, 12/14

Centenary celebrations marking the 100th birthday of the late Brooklyn-born tenor Richard Tucker continue on December 14, when New York City's Park East Synagogue, in association with the Richard Tucker Music Foundation, presents a tribute to the cantor-turned-opera star as its ninth-annual benefit concert for the Park East Day School. The program for the special event showcases the American cantorial tradition and commemorates Tucker's devotional art as a cantor. The 8 p.m. concert at the synagogue (163 E. 67th St.) will feature Park East Chief Cantor Yitzchak Meir Helfgot, one of the world's most renowned exponents of the cantorial art, as well as operatic tenor Neil Shicoff, a New York native and veteran of the Metropolitan Opera; also on the program is the Park East Synagogue Choir under music director Russel Ger. Nicholas McGegan to Conduct Juilliard 415 in DRESDEN AND BERLIN, Today

On Today, November 4, 2013 at 8pm, at Alice Tully Hall, British conductor and early music specialist Nicholas McGegan leads Juilliard415 in Dresden and Berlin: A Celebration of Two Courts--a program of rarely-performed works by Bohemian composers, and Juilliard's 12th annual tribute concert to the late philanthropist Jerome L. Greene.

Ensemble ACJW Launches 2013-14 Season

Ensemble ACJW-an inspirational collective of young professional musicians who are fellows in a two-year program that supports them in building careers as top-quality performers, innovative programmers, and dedicated teachers-returns for its seventh year in the 2013-2014 season. Members of ACJW play music at the highest level, partner with New York City public school music teachers and classrooms throughout the school year, lead biannual residencies at Skidmore College, perform in a variety of community settings, and possess a strong commitment to professional development. Established in January 2007 by Carnegie Hall, The Juilliard School, and the Weill Music Institute in partnership with the New York City Department of Education, Ensemble ACJW reflects the belief that the artist of tomorrow will require both the ability to perform at the highest level and the capacity to give back to the community, inspiring the next generation of musicians and music lovers.

Hunter Ryan Herdlicka, Melissa van der Schyff, & More Set for BENJAMIN BUTTON Reading, 6/5

On Wednesday, June 5, Fundamental Theatre Project will present Benjamin Button - A New Musical, as a part of Mass Rhetoric: A New Works Festival. With music by Natalie Tenenbaum and a book and lyrics by Brett Boles, the project will be directed by Stephen Nachamie and will feature Daniel Reichard, Melissa van der Schyff, Hunter Herdlicka, T.J. Mannix, James Donegan, Mark Willis Borum, Lauren Downie, Isabel Nesti, Lindsay Gallagher, Sena Lee, Alysia Dorhout, Heath Chaney, Chris Withers, Xalvador Tin-Bradbury and Mark DiConzo.
