New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) has announced the recipients and finalists of the NYSCANYFA Artist Fellowship Program, which it has administered for the past 33 years with leadership support from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA). The organization has awarded a total of $661,000 to 98 artists (including three collaborations) whose ages range from 25-76 years throughout New York State in the following disciplines: ArchitectureEnvironmental StructuresDesign, Choreography, MusicSound, Photography, and PlaywritingScreenwriting. The NY Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies, announces partnerships with Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography (MANCC) and the American Dance Festival (ADF), and renews partnerships with the CUNY Dance Initiative (CDI) and the New York State DanceForce, creating new platforms of support and professional opportunities for Bessie artists.
The CUNY Dance Initiative (CDI), an innovative residency program for New York City choreographers, celebrates its fifth anniversary with a series of performances this spring. Co-presented with Baruch Performing Arts Center, the 5th Year Fest will feature works by 11 artists/companies in two separate programs that exemplify the diversity of dance styles, perspectives, and cultural expressions that has come through CDI's doors. Lead funding for CDI's 5th Year Fest is generously provided by the Howard Gilman Foundation, with additional support from the Mertz Gilmore Foundation.
The NY Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies, announced today that Yoko Shioya, Artistic Director of the Japan Society, is the recipient of the 2019 Bessies Presenter Award for Outstanding Curating. Ms. Shioya will receive the award at the Bessies Presenters Gathering on Sunday, January 6, 2019 (5:00-7:00pm), at La MaMa La Galleria, 47 Great Jones Street, New York, NY 10003
The night remained forever young at this year's Bessies, what with live performances, videos, tearful and grinning thank you's, hugs and cheers for the new slew of winners, and a costume sashay thrown into wild mix of celebration that took place tonight, October 8, at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. As a prelude to the goings-on inside, impromptu dance performances, including Simone Forti's "Huddle," took place outside. Ayodele Casel and Shernita Anderson hosted the evening.
CPR - Center for Performance Research is thrilled to announce its 2018 Fall season. Located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, CPR supports the development of new works in contemporary dance, performance and related forms. Its mission is to promote awareness of and appreciation for contemporary performing arts. Curated programs focus on rehearsal and residency support, generating time and space for research and dialogue, and providing public presentation opportunities. Over the last decade, CPR has supported more than 1700 artists in the development of dance and performance projects, while exposing local audiences to contemporary artistic process through performances and work-in-progress showings, salon style discussions, and symposia.
Glasses clinked and cheers crowded the air as this year's 43 Bessie nominees were announced and celebrated today, July 11, at a cocktail party/press conference at Gibney 280, along with the winners of 2018 Juried Bessie Award and the 2018 NY Dance and Performance Award for Outstanding "Breakout" Choreographer. New Dance Alliance is pleased to announce the lineup for the 32nd annual Performance Mix Festival. “The most elaborate festival of the unpredictable” (The New York Times), the 2018 edition brings together more than 30 artists with diverse approaches to performance, inviting audiences to engage with the unexpected and to experience some of the newest voices in experimental dance. This year's festival also includes Performance Mix's annual community breakfast, a free movement workshop, and other special events. The festival runs June 7?10, 2018, at The Performance Project at University Settlement. Performance Mix is curated by New Dance Alliance Founder and Director Karen Bernard.
Now about to turn thirteen, La MaMa Moves! Dance Festival, the ever-evolving spring fling of dance that exuberantly commandeers the various theaters of La MaMa each year, takes on yet another challenge in 2018. This year's festival showcases nine artists who take the road less travelled, daring to speak out in new and forceful ways about issues that trouble and inspire them: race, gender, religion, exclusion, each using the body to voice concerns in ways words cannot. Eleven companies, nine performances, including five premieres are on the boards. New this year will be two offsite events: panel discussions about artists and cultural identity, and screenings of rarely-seen films. The 2018 festival runs May 10-June 3.

Live music will be included in this colorful tribute, curated by Rajika Puri, doyenne of Indian Dance in NYC.
The Harlem Stage dance series, E-Moves promises to present a broad spectrum of choreographers of color who work across the spectrum of contemporary idioms. This year the acclaimed dance series has commissioned new works from two established and two emerging choreographers. Under the curatorship of Charmaine Warren, the E-Moves 18 lineup includes four artists with work that intersects the questions and impact of the world around them. Francesca Harper who continues to seek answers for life's challenges; Parijat Desai whose work is realized through her unique blend of contemporary dance and Indian forms; Kyle Marshall who quietly investigates black culture through dance; and Leyland Simmons who makes ballets that break from the classical mold.

The Tribeca Performing Arts Center is still accepting applications for our 2010-11 Artists-in-Residence season. The application deadline has now been extended to June 21, 2010. Beginning in September 2010, the selected artists will have weekly access to our theaters and the opportunity to present during the 'Work & Show Festival' in the spring of 2011.
