Flat Rock Playhouse has announced the complete cast for its production of Steel Magnolias, set to run from April 29th to May 23rd.

Today, we are taking a listen to ANYONE CAN WHISTLE and COMPANY, two of the most genre-bending and revolutionary musicals of the latter twentieth century, both boasting Sondheim's strongest songs of the sixties. These recordings contain some of the most legendary and illustrious Broadway casts of all time and include the names Angela Lansbury, Lee Remick, Bernadette Peters, Elaine Stritch, Raul Esparza, Dean Jones, Larry Kert and Jane Krakowski, just to name a few...

Three years ago I named D'Jamin Bartlett's performance of 'The Miller's Son' at BroadwayWorld's Standing Ovations IV concert, thirty-two years after she introduced the song in A Little Night Music, as one of my most memorable theatre moments of 2005. I may have to put her back on the list for 2008. At Sunday afternoon's Broadway Originals concert, the final entry of Town Hall's 4th Annual Broadway Cabaret Festival, Bartlett once again - in the original key - completely floored a New York audience with her rapid-fire deliver of Stephen Sondheim's patter combined with sterling vocals conveying an intensely cerebral sexuality. Called out to take a bow, she seemed sincerely surprised and overwhelmed at the cheers of the crowd.

Broadway star Lee Roy Reams received The Friars Club Thespian Award while honored by friends and colleagues in a star-studded musical tribute on Monday, April 20th at 8:30PM at The Friars Club (57 East 55th St). West 43rd Street will become a little pinker, as will the Easter Parade (and all of New York City in general) when the actor Leslie Jordan arrives to bring his acclaimed solo show, My Trip Down The Pink Carpet, to the Westside Theatre (407 West 43rd Street) this Spring. Producer Bruce Robert Harris announced that performances will begin on Wednesday, April 15, with an official opening night set for Monday evening, April 20. David Galligan directs the 6-week limited engagement.

The 4th Annual Broadway Cabaret Festival concluded on Sunday, October 19th at 3 PM with Broadway Originals! This year, stars from five decades of Broadway history took to the Town Hall stage to perform songs they originated on Broadway or brought back to life in the original cast of a revival. After the concert the cast took a few short steps next door to Spanky's BBQ for a little post show celebrating, our BroadwayWorld cameras were there to bring you all the fun!
