THE RED LOTUS Selected As Official Selection for the Awareness Festival

The Red Lotus is an official selection at The Awareness Festival. The Red Lotus is a narrative 19min short film with a bone chilling story. Two sisters go away for a weekend to strengthen their relationship and uncover a secret that will bind them for life. Set in a world much like today, The Red Lotus is a tale of strength, women's rights, sisterhood, and the human spirit. Michelle drags her sister Debbie to a yoga retreat only to reveal that there is something much bigger than Vinyasa going on. In her traditional storytelling style, Shara interviewed many women who have had abortions for the source material that inspired the film.

Smith Global Media Acquires CANAL STREET

Smith Global Media announced today they have acquired the Worldwide rights to Canal Street, which screened to rave reviews at this year's American Black Film Festival (ABFF) among others. The film will open on January 18th, 2019, over Martin Luther King weekend.

We all fight with filters and obstacles in our lives, but the actors and characters in this production face challenges steeper than most. It is the experience and living truth of the actors that will fill these disabled characters' stories with physical and emotional authenticity.

Matt Smith is joining the STAR WARS: EPISODE IX cast, according to Variety. It's unknown who Smith will be playing in the film, which is currently in production in the U.K.

WoodSongs To Present The Farm Hands And Grant Maloy Smith

Cincinnati Opera Announces Gregory Spears + US Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith's CASTOR & PATIENCE

Evans Mirageas, The Harry T. Wilks Artistic Director of Cincinnati Opera, today announced that the company has commissioned a new evening-length opera, Castor and Patience, from composer Gregory Spears and librettist Tracy K. Smith, poet laureate of the United States. Castor and Patience will premiere at the Corbett Theater in the School for Creative and Performing Arts in July 2020, highlighting Cincinnati Opera's centennial season. It will be Spears' second work for the company, following the extraordinary critical and popular success of Fellow Travelers, with librettist Greg Pierce, in 2016. Smith, winner of the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for her collection Life on Mars, is one of the most lauded poets of her generation; her original story for Castor and Patience is both timeless and topical, setting a prototypical family conflict against the backdrop of recent events.

These performances celebrate Smith as he embarks on the next chapter of his creative life.

Cast Announced for World Premiere of HURRICANE DAMAGE

Casting is complete for HURRICANE DAMAGE, a world-premiere dramedy by the New York-based playwright Kevin Brofsky that will be the fourth entry in Pride Films and Plays' five-show PAC Pride Fest. HURRICANE DAMAGE, opening on August 3 after previews on August 1 and 2, concerns two long-time partners, veterans of the 1970's gay scene in New York, living on Florida's Gulf Coast. Dennis and Oscar are visited by an old friend of those days, a photographer named Norman who has remained single and brings back bittersweet memories of their glory days in Manhattan.  The couple will be played by company member Charles A. Berglund as Dennis and Danne W. Taylor as Oscar.
