Vince Giordano's band (originally known as the New Orleans Nighthawks) has been around for 35 years, but seemingly are getting more popular with age. For example, they've become HBOs go-to vintage jazz band, popping up in the 2009 film version of Grey Gardens, the 2011 mini-series Mildred Pierce, and the original series Boardwalk Empire (for which the band a 2012 Grammy Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack). While there are a few other bands around the country playing 1920s and 1930s jazz, swing and blues, the Nighthawks deserve most of the credit for keeping the genre alive . . . and live, and they shined recently at Rose Hall for Jazz at Lincoln Center.
Oliver King and Emily Tucker star in A WARSAW MELODY, a UK premiere of Leonid Zorin's Russian Classic, which runs from March 28 through April 28 at London's Arcola Theatre. Set during the heyday of the Soviet bloc, the story of A WARSAW MELODY follows the blossoming relationship between a Russian boy and a Polish girl and their struggle against the public and social institutions that explicitly forbid the existence of their love. A WARSAW MELODY is described as 'a very human story that goes to the heart, not to the head'.

On November 29, the British singer-songwriter used his website to dissuade fans from buying his own new boxed set, The Return of the Spectacular Spinning Songbook, noting that its suggested retail price of $329.99 "appears to be either a misprint or a satire." Instead, his message urged them to make a different purchase. "If you should really want to buy something special for your loved one at this time of seasonal giving," he wrote, "we can whole-heartedly recommend, Ambassador Of Jazz - a cute little imitation suitcase, covered in travel stickers and embossed with the name 'Satchmo' but more importantly containing TEN re-mastered albums by one of the most beautiful and loving revolutionaries who ever lived - Louis Armstrong. The box should be available for under one hundred and fifty American dollars and includes a number of other tricks and treats. Frankly, the music is vastly superior."
First performed in 1697, The Provoked Wife contains strangely modern explorations of marriage and love (and lust) without forgetting the requisite humour. In Perfect Mayhem's hands it is part screwball comedy, part chamber piece. The action is relocated to a mythical version of Mayfair in the 1920s and edited to a dizzying 100 minutes which explores the wit, physical comedy and smouldering sexuality of the play without shirking the darker themes.
Perfect Mayhem has announced its creative team and cast for their production of former Greenwich resident Sir John Vanbrugh's classic Restoration comedy.
