Al Smith's Atom Bomb Play ENOLA Set for the side project May 13 - June 15

Mixing fact and fiction, faith and science, theatricality and stark realism, playwright Al Smith explores the legacy of war on youth by having Enola, the 8-year-old daughter of the man who built the plane that dropped the bomb on Hiroshima, walk him through that fateful summer. Rogers Park-based theatre company, the side project, will present the U.S. premiere of Enola, which won the 2006 Sunday Times (U.K.) Playwriting Award, as part of its three-show Spring Repertory, starting May 13.

Boston Teen Acting Troupe to Present Teen GOD OF CARNAGE This May

The first ever teen production of Yasmina Raza's Tony Award winning comedy, God of Carnage is being produced by The Boston Teen Acting Troupe this May. This will be the first time in the show's history that God of Carnage will be acted, directed, produced, designed and run completely by teens.

PACKER FANS FROM OUTER SPACE Comes to Marcus Center, 6/7-20

The Marcus Center for the Performing Arts announces its production of Packer Fans from Outer Space this summer, June 8-July 22, in Vogel Hall as part of its Off Broadway series. A preview performance will be held on Thursday, June 7 at 7:30 p.m. It is the world's very first (and only) Science Fiction Football Musical Comedy! Junge Sängerinnen und Sänger z.T. aus dem Ensemble der Staatsoper und dem Opernstudio, Musiker der Orchesterakademie und Mitglieder der Staatskapelle Berlin werden dieses Werk gemeinsam mit 22 Berliner Jugendlichen im Alter zwischen 14 und 20 mit Wurzeln u.a. in Polen, Russland, Kasachstan, Lettland und Moldawien erarbeiten. Es inszeniert der Berliner Regisseur Neco Çelik, der für seine Stuttgarter Arbeit „Gegen die Wand“, die Oper zum gleichnamigen Film von Fatih Akin, im letzten Jahr mit dem Deutschen Theaterpreis „Der Faust“ in der Kategorie „Kinder- und Jugendtheater“ ausgezeichnet wurde. Premiere in der Werkstatt der Staatsoper im Schiller Theater ist am 2. Mai.

Big Changes in Store for NBC's THE OFFICE?

As first reported on Deadline.com, THE OFFICE executive producer Greg Daniels may launch a new version of the NBC comedy series which would include existing characters and incorporate new ones if it is renewed for a ninth season.

Theatre Sheridan Extends RENT Through 6/3

Theatre Sheridan today announced the extension of the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical RENT for one week even before it opens! RENT was presented last December to sold out houses at Sheridan College's Oakville campus, and is being transferring to Toronto's Panasonic Theatre where it opens May 16 (preview May 15). On this Thursday, April 12 episode of the NBC comedy series THE OFFICE entitled 'Welcome Party', Robert (two-time Emmy Award winner James Spader) makes the office throw a welcome party for Nellie (Catherine Tate), and the party planners try to sabotage it. Meanwhile, Andy (Ed Helms) and Erin (Ellie Kemper) practice how Andy will break up with Jessica (guest star Eleanor Seigler).

THE BIRTHDAY PARTY to Open at the Jungle Theatre, 4/6

Harold Pinter's celebrated play, THE BIRTHDAY PARTY, appears at the Jungle Theater for the first time and features an all-star cast, including Richard Ooms and Claudia Wilkens as Petey and Meg Boles, and Stephen Cartmell as Stanley Webber, the lone lodger in the Boles' shabby English boarding house. One of the great black comedies of the 20th century, The Birthday Party will be on stage April 6-May 13 at the Lyn-Lake theater, 2951 Lyndale Av. S., in Minneapolis.

Canadian Music Theatre Project to Kick Off April 10

The Canadian Music Theatre Project is Canada's first incubator for the development of new musical theatre works by Canadian and international composers, lyricists and book-writers. The first two works being developed are COME FROM AWAY, by David Hein and Irene Sankoff (My Mother's Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding, 2010 New York Music Theatre Festival "Outstanding New Musical" and "Excellence in Writing" awards), under the direction of David Ferry and musical direction of Callum Morris and CENTRAL PARK TANGO, by Robert Gontier and Nicky Phillips (Johnny Mercer Songwriters Project, In Flanders Fields), under the direction of Jim Betts and musical direction of Aaron Eyre.

Quadracci Powerhouse Stage Presents Shakespeare's OTHELLO, 4/3-5/6

One of Shakespeare's most tragic heroes squares off against literature's greatest villain in a visceral, sexy, hard-driving story of intrigue, betrayal and vengeance, as Iago leads Othello to the edge of jealous madness by sowing seeds of doubt about his wife's fidelity. This classic revenge tragedy comes to life in a modern and edgy adaptation set in the world of motorcycle gangs. This production of Othello will be directed by Artistic Director Mark Clements, the role of Othello will be performed by guest actor Lindsay Smiling, and the role of Iago will be performed by Rep Resident Acting Company Member Gerard Neugent. The Rep's production of Othello is sponsored by Harley-Davidson Motor Company and runs April 3 - May 6, 2012 in The Rep's Quadracci Powerhouse and previews Tuesday, April 3 - Thursday, April 5, and opens on Friday, April 6.

The singers of the Ryan Opera Center will conclude a year of study and performance with the end-of-season Rising Stars in Concert for Lyric Opera donors Saturday, March 31, at 7:30 p.m. in the Ardis Krainik Theatre of the Civic Opera House. Tickets for this concert are a benefit available only to Lyric Opera donors of $75 and above. It is not open to the public.
