Live From Lincoln Center - the pioneering, award-winning performing arts series - continues its 40th anniversary season with another concert from Lincoln Center's American Songbook series, featuring Norm Lewis: Who Am I? (April 10 on PBS). Song selections include: 'Wouldn't It Be Loverly?' (Music by Frederick Loewe, lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner); 'I Got Plenty o' Nuttin' (Music by George Gershwin, lyrics by DuBose Heyward and Ira Gershwin); 'What's Going On' (Renaldo Benson, al Cleveland, and Marvin Gaye); and 'No One Is Alone' (Stephen Sondheim).

Now in the midst of their second international concert tour, Well-Strung, The Singing String Quartet, will return to New York's 54 Below with their latest production, 'POPssical' tonight, March 27 at 9:30 PM for one show only. Bay Area Cabaret, the organization dedicated to presenting world renowned artists who expand the definition of cabaret, presents multi-Grammy-Award winning jazz pianist/composer Ramsey Lewis and jazz guitarist/vocalist John Pizzarelli in Straighten up and Fly Right: A Tribute to Nat King Cole.

Well-Strung has been establishing a growing presence amongst Broadway fans. The all-male, singing string quartet whose members are Chris Marchant, Daniel Shevlin, Trevor Wadleigh and Edmund Bagnell, was the brainchild of Manager Mark Cortale and Marchant. They first came on to BroadwayWorld's radar when they appeared onstage for the Opening Gala of the Walt Disney Theater in Orlando, part of the new Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. The gala was directed by Richard Jay-Alexander and conducted by Mary-Mitchell Campbell, with members of the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. But check out who they shared the stage with: Sierra Boggess, Deborah Voigt, Chris Mann, Norm Lewis & more. We then saw them at the Hirschfeld Theatre in another stellar line-up that included Rob McClure, Julie Haltson, Tituss Burgess, Lena Hall, Florence Henderson, Norm Lewis, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Lillias White, Lily Tomlin and more Broadway favorites for Broadway Backwards, on March 9th, directed by Robert Bartley with musical supervision by Mary-Mitchell Campbell and conducted by Tim Rosser. The guys definitely impressed.

In celebration of the March 24th in-home debut of 'INTO THE WOODS,' an all-star line-up of Broadway performers (presented by Jacob Langfelder) are uniting to honor legendary composer, Stephen Sondheim, on the occasion of his 85th birthday on March 22 at 42 West, 514 W. 42 St. (between 10th/11th Ave.), New York, NY at 8 PM.

'If music be the food of love, play on.' Even before the invention of the musical comedy (more on that later), William Shakespeare knew the importance of music in telling stories on stage. For our March feature, my colleague Jeff Walker and I thought that instead of marking the Ides of March with songs about murder, betrayal, and fate, we would focus on the synergy between showtunes and Shakespeare.
