Three-time GRAMMY® winner and renowned sitar player Ravi Shankar was a true pioneer in introducing Indian music to the West. He influenced artists across classical, jazz, pop, rock, and world music genres, including the Beatles, John Coltrane, Philip Glass, and his daughters, Norah Jones and Anoushka Shankar.

The Recording Academy (www.grammy.com) announced its Special Merit Awards recipients today, and this year's honorees are: Glenn Gould, Charlie Haden, Lightnin' Hopkins, Carole King, Patti Page, Ravi Shankar andthe Temptations as Lifetime Achievement Award recipients

Ravi Shankar, the renowned Indian composer and sitarist has passed away at the age of 92. The musician shot to international stardom in 1965 when Beatle George Harrison studied under him. Shankar received an Oscar nomination in 1982 for his score for the biopic film 'Gandhi.'

They'll be joined by members of The Band, Levon Helm Band (Midnight Ramble Band), and Dirt Farmer Band: Jim Weider, Randy Ciarlante and Byron Isaacs. Special guest: Sister Maud Hudson.

WFUV will give thanks musically this holiday season with two days of concert broadcasts from venues as small as Electric Lady Studios and The Living Room and as large as music festivals like Newport Folk and SXSW, starting on Thursday, November 22nd from 10 AM-Midnight and continuing Friday, November 23rd from 10 AM-2 PM. The first day of the annual Thanksgiving Feastival brings listeners performances by the likes of Dawes, Calexico, Regina Spektor and Wilco as well as a broadcast of the Arlo Guthrie classic "Alice's Restaurant" at noon. On Friday, the live music marathon continues with performances by Shawn Colvin, Alabama Shakes, Norah Jones, and Sigur Ros throughout the day. Iconic PBS television series Austin City Limits (ACL) unveils the second half of Season 38 with a line-up that continues to exemplify the show's tradition of "Great Music, No Limits." Eight brand-new shows begin airing in January 2013 as part of the music series' thirteen-episode season.

Hot-on-the-heels of the triumphant re-opening of Hamer Hall is the esteemed auditorium's 30th Birthday, which will be celebrated with a cake cutting and performance by Eddie Perfect and Tripod who will perform a song from their upcoming Arts Centre Melbourne presents show Perfect Tripod: Australian Songs at 12.30pm today, November 4.

The festival kicked off with Linda Eder's, Linda Eder, A New Life on Saturday October 13 and continued with Broadway Originals! on Sunday October 21st. The festival is created, written and hosted by Scott Siegel.

They will receive The Town Hall's 'Friend of the Arts' Award tonight, October 21st, 2012.
