These are some of the random thoughts that whizzed through my head while trying to see through the clutter of Zakiyyah Alexander's 10 Things to Do Before I Die, a game effort but a frustratingly unfocused piece receiving a well-acted premiere production via Second Stage Theatre Uptown.

The four-character play made its Broadway premiere in 1931, starring Noel Coward himself. It has a long history with six Broadway revivals, most recently in 2002, and a long list of well known cast members including Laurence Olivier, Tallulah Bankhead, Maggie Smith, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, and Alan Rickman.

Following last season?s triumph of Rodgers & Hammerstein?s Carousel, Lyric Stage Founding Producer Steven Jones has reunited director Cheryl Denson and music director Jay Dias for the world premiere of the newly restored The King and I, featuring a 35-piece orchestra playing the original Robert Russell Bennett orchestrations. Performances are June 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27 @ 8:00 PM and June 21 & 28 @ 2:30 PM. Performances are in the Irving Arts Center?s Carpenter Performance Hall, 3333 N. Mac Arthur Blvd,. Irving, Texas. Kelly Bishop, Maryann Plunkett, Jake Robards and Paxton Whitehead share the stage for a benefit reading of Noel Coward?s A Song at Twilight. This outstanding group of actors is being brought together by director James Glossman to raise funds for Luna Stage. The company is moving in July from its current home at 695 Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair to a new space in West Orange. Says Managing Director, Mona Hennessy, ?When James approached us with the offer of directing this reading as a Luna Stage fundraiser, we were thrilled. What better way to say goodbye to our Montclair home than by having a classic play read by wonderful actors! That is, after all, Luna is all about ? good theatre!?

Ruined, by Lynn Nottage, today won the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award (NYDCC) for Best Play of the 2008-2009 season. The Best Musical award was given to Billy Elliot, music by Elton John, and book and lyrics by Lee Hall. The award for Best Foreign Play was given to Black Watch by Gregory Burke. The selections were made at the 74th annual voting meeting of the organization today at the offices of Time Out New York in Manhattan.

'CALENDAR GIRLS', the new stage play by Tim Firth, adapted from his own screenplay for the 2003 film, stars Lynda Bellingham, Patricia Hodge, Sian Phillips, Gaynor Faye, Brigit Forsyth, Julia Hills and Elaine C Smith. Also in the cast are Joan Blackham, Abby Francis, Gary Lilburn, Gerard McDermot and Carl Prekopp.
