Joe's Pub Announces Upcoming Events and Shows

JOE'S PUB at The Public Theater, reopened October 4th, 2011 from a top to bottom renovation, debuted in October 1998 and quickly became one of New York City's most celebrated and in-demand showcase venues for live music and performance. Classical Theatre of Harlem & Hip-Hop Theater Festival Present SEED

The OBIE Award-winning Classical Theatre of Harlem (Ty Jones, Producing Director) in conjunction with Hip-Hop Theater Festival (Clyde Valentin, Executive Director and Kamilah Forbes, Artistic Director) will present the world & Off-Broadway premiere of SEED, an award-winning play written by Radha Blank & directed by Niegel Smith, at the National Black Theatre in Harlem.

HENRY V and SEED Set for Classical Theatre of Harlem

Under new leadership, The Classical Theatre of Harlem is proud to present two gripping world premiere productions that mark the Company's return to full-scale works. From August 5 - September 4, The Classical Theatre of Harlem will present Shakespeare's great history play, Henry V, in a new staging directed by Jenny Bennett that features OBIE award-winner Ty Jones in the title role. An acclaimed veteran of the Company and driving force behind its survival, Jones heads a cast of 15 in a raw, timeless production. His interpretation of King Henry V not only highlights the character's charisma and inspirational power to lead, but also his heroic faults and morally questionable tactics.

SEED Comes To The National Black Theatre in Harlem, Previews 9/6

Joe’s Pub at The Public Theater Approved For A Grant For NY Voices

Rocco Landesman, Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, announced that Joe's Pub at The Public Theater has been approved for a grant to support New York Voices at Joe's Pub, a series celebrating New York City's diversity in performance and culture, presenting collaborations between artists from sound and stage.

Juilliard Features Fourth Year Actors in THE SEAGULL, 12/9

Juilliard's Drama Division announced the complete schedule for its 2010-2011 season of fully-staged productions featuring students in their fourth and final year of acting training at Juilliard. This season's plays include Lorraine Hansberry's A RAISIN IN THE SUN, directed by Jade King Carroll, October 20-24; David Auburn's PROOF, directed by Harris Yulin, November 11-15; and Chekhov's THE SEAGULL, directed by Richard Feldman, December 9-13.

Classical Theatre of Harlem Closes SEED, 8/19

On the precipice of closing its doors, The Classical Theatre of Harlem, under new leadership, faced economic & administrative challenges head on, in order to maintain its status as a unique cultural gem in Harlem. The past eight months have been dedicated to reviving the theatre's health & viability. Although the production season was in hiatus, CTH launched 'Project Classics,' bringing free theatre to the children & residents of Grant & Manhattanville public housing. SEED, by Radha Blank, marks CTH's first return to the Harlem School of the Arts since 2006. This Workshop Production is directed by Niegel Smith.
