Clawhammer banjo player, composer and singer ABIGAIL WASHBURN will debut POST-AMERICAN GIRL at Joe's Pub at The Public March 28 - 30 as part of NEW YORK VOICES, the popular commission series designed to help musicians make the leap from songwriting and performance to theatrical production. Washburn's new stage piece is about an American girl coming-of-age in a swiftly changing global order. You don't have to go far to experience the ambience of New York City's iconic Birdland Jazz Club, when Live at Birdland, featuring the Birdland Big Band directed by Tommy Igoe, appears in Jorgensen's award-winning Cabaret on Thursday, January 31, at 7:30 p.m. The audience will be transported back to a time when a number of illustrious jazz musicians, including Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Stan Getz, and Lester Young, to name just a few, made Birdland their New York home.

Joe's Pub at The Public announces the second season of its New York Voices series, presenting new works from critically-acclaimed performers commissioned by Joe's Pub and supported in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The 2013 season will include the celebrated Spanish flamenco dance company Noche Flamenca; the singer-songwriter Abigail Washburn who fuses traditional forms of Appalachian and Chinese folk music; and carnal chanteuse and fearless cabaret star Bridget Everett.
