ON HER SHOULDERS to Offer Staged Reading of Three Shorts from The Suffragists, 2/18

On Her Shoulders will present a FREE staged reading of three shorts from the Suffragists, directed by Melissa Attebery on Wednesday, February 18, 2015. Doors open at 6:30pm;The Play in Context, which situates the script in its historical time and place, kicks off the evening at 6:45pm with an Introduction by dramaturg Barbara Cohen-Stratyner. Kristin Heckler is Assistant Director. Running time, including a post-performance Q&A is 2 hours. The performance is at New Perspectives Studio, 458 West 37th Street, at 10th Avenue. CHANNING will sit down with arts journalist PATRICK PACHECO to discuss her fascinating work as a theatre artist. Tony Torn to Join Cast of Untitled Theater Company #61's THE VELVET ORATORIO

Tony Torn (Karen Coonrad's The Tempest, Jay Scheib's The Disinherited, Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's on Broadway) joins the cast of The Velvet Oratorio, an original opera/theater piece commemorating the 25th anniversary of The Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia. The show will be presented in the grand ballroom at the current home of the Czech Center and the Czech Consulate: The Bohemian National Hall. The Velvet Oratorio is an evocative retelling of the Velvet Revolution through found text, choral music, and scenes inspired by Vaclav Havel's Van?k plays. Torn will be playing a secret service officer who interrogates Van?k but later disclaims his Communist past.

Pianist Mohamed Shams Performs Today at Bruno Walter Auditorium

In a one-time only free public event, acclaimed Egyptian pianist Mohamed Shams returns to present works by Mendelssohn, Schumann, Debussy and Liszt today, November 22 at 2:30 pm at the Bruno Walter Auditorium, New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, 111 Amsterdam Avenue. Admission is on a first-come first served basis.

Cornish Dance Theater Presents Fall 2014 Concert This Weekend

Cornish Dance Theater, the performing ensemble of the Dance Department at Cornish College of the Arts, will feature choreography by Iyun Ashani Harrison, Jose Limon, Vivian Little, Michele Miller, and Amy O'Neal at its Fall 2014 Concert, which takes place at the Cornish Playhouse this weekend, Nov. 21 and 22. Many of the pieces, including one world premiere from Harrison, focus on issues relevant to the dancers and today's college students.
