Though it was hot and muggy on the evening of July 24th, 2016, the jam-packed audience at Manhattan Movement & Arts Center was grinning agog like newly minted parents infatuated with their brood. The cause: a troupe of adorable bambine from Staten Island Ballet performing Ellen Tharp's 'Tarantella'. Though only one of these girls was delivering the movement nel modo Italiano, they were all so lively with their tambourine strikes and hops that even the most curmudgeonly of audience members applauded with gusto.

American Blues Theater kicks off its 31st Season - 'Define Yourself' - with a pair of one acts, including Dutchman by Amiri Baraka, directed by Chuck Smith and the World Premiere of TRANSit by Darren Canady, directed by Lisa Portes. Cardboard Citizens announces a new tour inspired by Cathy Come Home. Fifty years on from the original Ken Loach film highlighting homelessness, the production marks the 25th anniversary of the theatre company that works making theatre with and for homeless people. The production will tour theatres, prisons and hostels across the UK from October 2016-February 2017.
Jonathan Maitland's debut play, DEAD SHEEP, directed by Ian Talbot OBE, will tour the UK from 6 September - 28 November 2016. American Blues Theater, Chicago's second oldest Equity Ensemble, under the continued leadership of Producing Artistic Director Gwendolyn Whiteside, announce the submission period for the 2017 National Blue Ink Playwriting Award.
