Donmar Warehouse's All-Female THE TEMPEST Begins Tonight at King's Cross

Singer-songwriter Joan Armatrading will compose original music for Phyllida Lloyd's forthcoming production of The Tempest. The songs will be set to Shakespeare's words in the Donmar's new all-female production which starts performance from tonight 23rd September.

British Museum Hosts Major UK Exhibition on South African Art, SOUTH AFRICA: THE ART OF A NATION, Oct. 27

This autumn the British Museum will host the first major UK exhibition on South African art that explores a 100,000 history through archaeological, historic and contemporary artworks, which look at the long and rich artistic heritage of the country. South Africa: the art of a nation is sponsored by Jack and Betsy Ryan and will use art to tell the story of the region's deep history, the colonial period, apartheid, the birth of the 'rainbow nation' and South Africa today. Objects from the British Museum's own South African collections will be displayed alongside contemporary acquisitions. There will also be significant loans in the exhibition, including objects coming to the UK for the very first time, thanks to the exhibition's logistics partner IAG Cargo.

The National Civil Rights Museum Announces 25th Freedom Award

Today, the National Civil Rights Museum announced recipients of The Freedom Award, the museum's signature event that honors outstanding individuals for their significant contributions to civil and human rights. This year's honorees are Benjamin Crump, civil rights attorney; Tawakkol Karman, Yemeni human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate; The Honorable Damon Jerome Keith, longest serving judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit Court; Soledad O'Brien, journalist and executive producer; and Bryan Stevenson, attorney and social justice activist.

The New York Civil Liberties Union, the New York State affiliate of the ACLU, announced today a star-studded lineup of performers for its annual benefit concert. "Broadway Stands Up for Freedom" will boast performances by some of Broadway's finest on Monday, July 18, at the NYU Skirball Center for Performing Arts (566 LaGuardia Place). South African audiences will have an opportunity to see a play that was considered such an essential part of post-apartheid social dialogue in South Africa that Nelson Mandela himself requested a private performance of it when Hungry Minds Theatre revives Rajesh Gopie's OUT OF BOUNDS at the National Arts Festival this year.

Soundstreams Appoints Ben Dietschi Executive Director

Cynthia-Reeves to Display Lionel Smit's MORPHOUS Exhibit, 6/13

CYNTHIA-REEVES, in collaboration with NYC Parks, the Union Square Partnership, and Art Miami / Art New York, presents MORPHOUS, a bronze sculpture by South African artist Lionel Smit, to be installed in Union Square from June 13, 2016 through April 30, 2017. A ribbon cutting ceremony and artist reception will be held at the sculpture on Tuesday, June 14 from 5:30 - 6:30pm at the sculpture.  The artist will be present, along with representatives from NYC Parks and CYNTHIA-REEVES.  Please join us for a meet and greet and celebration of the sculpture's installation. This will be the artist's first public art installation in the United States, and will be complemented by an exhibition of his work at CYNTHIA-REEVES' gallery venue on the campus of MASS MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts July 30 - September 25.
