2015 Helen Hayes Award Nominations Announced!

Tonight before a crowd of 150 theatre makers and theatre lovers, theatreWashington announced the nominees for the 2015 Helen Hayes Awards. One of the country's most prestigious cultural honors, The Helen Hayes Awards recognizes and celebrates excellence in professional theatre throughout the Washington metropolitan area. DRIVING MISS DAISY Begins Tonight at Ford's Theatre

The Ford's Theatre Society 2014-2015 season begins with Nancy Robinette and Craig Wallace in the Pulitzer Prize-winning play 'Driving Miss Daisy,' directed by Jennifer L. Nelson, tonight, September 26 through October 26, 2014, at Ford's Theatre (511 Tenth Street NW, Washington, D.C.). The cast also includes Ron Heneghan as Boolie Werthan.

Shakespeare's Globe to Bring HAMLET, KING LEAR to Folger Theatre's 2014-15 Season; Lineup Announced!

Folger Theatre Artistic Producer Janet Alexander Griffin today announced the 2014/15 season. With six full Shakespeare productions on stage at the Folger to celebrate the Bard's 450th, Folger Theatre will start the upcoming season with two special, limited engagements by London's Shakespeare's Globe. First, the acclaimed staging of Hamlet, seen at the Folger in 2012, returns in late July for just three performances as part of their Globe to Globe Hamlet, the ambitious two-year tour bringing the Danish prince to every country in the world. Then, once again in a September residency, Shakespeare's Globe will perform King Lear for eighteen shows. Joseph Marcell (TV's The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Jacques in Folger Theatre's 2007 As You Like It) plays the title role.

Frank Wildhorn's New Musical FREEDOM'S SONG and More Set for Ford's Theatre's 2014-15 Season

Ford's Theatre Director Paul R. Tetreault today announced that the Ford's Theatre 2014-2015 season will include mainstage productions of Driving Miss Daisy, headlined by Nancy Robinette and Craig Wallace, the return of Edward Gero as Scrooge in A Christmas Carol, the world premiere of The Widow Lincoln by James Still, and a new musical, Freedom's Song, still in development, inspired by the words of Lincoln and those who lived through the Civil War.

This year, for the first time, theatre lovers in Washington and around the world were able to watch the nomination announcements live via webcast at theatrewashington.org, Facebook, or on the Livestream. McCarter Theatre's THE WINTER'S TALE Opens Tomorrow

McCarter Theatre Center, in association with The Shakespeare Theatre Company, will celebrate the opening night of William Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale on Friday April 5. The production runs through April 21.
