Week Two of Mostly Mozart Festival Promises FIGARO and THE WHISPER OPERA, 8/4

Week Two of the 2013 Mostly Mozart Festival begins with the first of two concert series with the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra on Tuesday, August 6 and Wednesday, August 7 in Avery Fisher Hall with French conductor Jeremie Rhorer. Rhorer, returning for the first time since his debut in 2011, will lead Mozart's Overture to Le nozze di Figaro and Beethoven's Symphony No. 1, along with Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 25 in C major, K.503, with guest pianist Paul Lewis, continuing this season's overarching theme of musical lineage between the two iconic composers.

Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara to Present Inaugural Exhibits by Dasha Shishkin & Edgar Orlaineta Next Month

A longstanding west-coast anchor for creative expression and the only venue between Los Angeles and San Francisco focused solely on contemporary art, the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara (MCA Santa Barbara), formerly known as Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum (CAF), presents its inaugural exhibition of work by New York-based artist Dasha Shishkin and a solo project by Mexico City-based Edgar Orlaineta. Set for Fourth of July weekend, the July 6 openings kick off a month-long celebration of the new MCA Santa Barbara, which will include artist meet-and-greets, a VIP Founders Circle reception, and new public outreach initiatives, such as the Visiting Artist Summer Series. Both exhibitions will be on view July 6 through September 8, 2013.

Helsinki Central Library Competition Winner Announced

An international architectural competition for the Helsinki Central Library has been completed. The winning design of this competition titled Heart of the Metropolis - Helsinki Central Library is Käännös by the Finnish firm ALA Architects of Helsinki.

John Hodgman Returns SOLID SOUND 2013 to Present Comedy Lineup Tonight

Comedian, author, television personality and historian John Hodgman returns to Solid Sound 2013 to present another hand-picked line-up of comedic talent tonight, June 22. The Solid Sound Festival, brainchild of the Chicago-based musical innovators Wilco, returns to the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA) in North Adams on June 21-23.

Doug Aitken Presents 'Station to Station: A Nomadic Happening'

Artist Doug Aitken today announced his newest project, Station to Station: A Nomadic Happening that will connect artists, musicians and creative pioneers with diverse communities, pushing art and culture outside of institutional constraints.A public art project made possible by the Levi's brand, Station to Station will raise funds through ticket sales and donations to support non-traditional programming at seven partner museums around the country.

Wilco-Crafted Installations Set for SOLID SOUND 2013, Now thru 6/23

Continuing the tradition of creating new and exclusive artistic expressions as part of Solid Sound, several Wilco band members will premiere creative endeavors for this year's festival, taking place today, June 21-23 at MASS MoCA in North Adams, MA.

BANG ON A CAN's 12th Annual Summer Music Festival at MASS MoCA Set for 7/17-8/3

From July 17 through August 3, 2013, MASS MoCA (the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in North Adams, MA) explodes with the sounds of the 12th Annual Bang on a Can Summer Music Festival at MASS MoCA, a utopian residency program dedicated entirely to the creation, study, and performance of the most adventurous music of our time. A three-week intensive of public performances, recitals, and lectures, the Festival will be attended by over 50 cutting-edge composers and performers from around the globe, including 37 fellows selected from a pool of over 250 applicants from 17 countries.

Greg Cameron Named New Executive Director of The Joffrey Ballet

The Joffrey Ballet and Artistic Director Ashley C. Wheater yesterday announced that veteran Chicago arts administrator Greg Cameron, most recently the Chief Operating Officer of WTTW/WFMT, will join the Joffrey leadership team as its new Executive Director, effective July 1, 2013. Kathleen Hechinger, who joined The Joffrey as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrator Officer in 2010 and has served as interim Executive Director since March, has been appointed to the new position of Joffrey Ballet Deputy Director.

Sondheim Artscape Prize Exhibition on View at the Walters Art Museum June 29 – August 11

The Walters Art Museum and the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts (BOPA) present the Sondheim Artscape Prize: 2013 Finalists. On view at the Walters June 29–August 11, 2013, the exhibition showcases artwork by the finalists for the annual Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize, a $25,000 fellowship that is given each year to a visual artist or visual artist collaborators living and working in the Greater Baltimore region. M&T Bank has partnered with BOPA to establish the M&T Bank Sondheim Finalists' Awards, which provide a $2,500 honorarium for each of the remaining finalists not selected for the fellowship.

Indian-Born Artist Zarina Featured in Art Institute Survey at Art Institute of Chicago, 6/26

With intimacy and delicacy, the Indian-born artist Zarina tackles some of the most wrenching themes of the 20th and 21st centuries-exile, dispossession, alienation, and displacement-by transforming complex historical events into deeply personal and abstract works. Organized by the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, ZARINA: PAPER LIKE SKIN traces her career from 1961 to the present with approximately 60 works from the artist's studio as well as from public and private collections. On view at the Art Institute of Chicago June 26 through September 22, 2013 in Galleries 182-184, the exhibition features works rich in associations with the artist's life experiences that also serve as formal explorations of paper, perhaps one of the most humble yet varied of media.

Miami's Art Basel Kicks Off 2013-14 Conversations and Salon Series

Each year Art Basel hosts its Conversations and Salon series of discussions and talks on a range of subjects, including the collection and exhibition of art, understanding art from a geographical and historical perspective, and timely topics concerning the contemporary art scene. Artists, gallerists, art historians, curators, museum directors, critics, and collectors participate in panel discussions, book signings, and interviews.
