Fifth House Ensemble and Baladino to Release 'Nedudim' from Cedille Records

Chicago's Fifth House Ensemble, known for its narrative chamber music projects and new-music initiatives, and Baladino, a Mediterranean folk band from Israel that merges pop sensibilities with musical traditions from the Middle East and beyond, join forces on Nedudim, a genre-defying, world-premiere album of all-new arrangements and three new compositions.

Chicago Dancing Festival to Host 10th Anniversary Season in August

?The Chicago Dancing Festival proudly celebrates its 10th anniversary of free programming featuring performances by leading ballet, modern and contemporary dancers from across the country, August 23-27, 2016. Just as the Festival draws from top dance companies, this year's program will once again be presented in Chicago's top downtown venues including the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Jay Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park plus the highly anticipated return to Chicago's Landmark Stage, the Auditorium Theatre.

David Zwirner to Display Francis Alÿs Exhibit, 6/11

David Zwirner is pleased to present Ciudad Juárez projects, an exhibition of recent works by Francis Alÿs, on view at the gallery's London location. This is the artist's third solo presentation at David Zwirner and his first gallery exhibition in London in fifteen years. Over the past three decades, Alÿs has become known for his multifaceted practice, which encompasses public actions, installations, videos, paintings, and drawings. This exhibition brings together a group of works made by the artist between 2010 and 2015 in and about Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, a once prosperous border city that in recent years has been devastated by drug-related narco-violence.

VINE OF THE DEAD Begins at The Invisible Dog This Month

Jim Findlay's VINE OF THE DEAD, a performance produced by Joel Bassin and Collapsable Giraffe, presented by The Invisible Dog Art Center, plays three performances only at The Invisible Dog, 51 Bergen St, Brooklyn, NY 11201, beginning today, May 26, and continuing through May 28, 2016 at 9 p.m.

Angel Ortero Opens First Hong Kong Exhibition Today

For his first Hong Kong gallery exhibition, Puerto Rican artist Angel Otero will present a group of new paintings that bring his unique visual language to the forefront. Otero is dedicated to continuing the tradition of abstraction, and is an innovator in the genre. His richly textured abstract paintings engage in a dialogue with art historical themes while grappling with the artist's own history and sense of self. Through innovative techniques and physically engaging processes, Otero continually experiments with materials, drawing much of his inspiration from the inherent qualities of paint. The artist will be present for an opening reception at the Pedder Building gallery on Today, May 26, from 6-8PM.

The Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago announces its 43rd season of presenting diverse international, national and regional contemporary dance. All performances, except where noted, take place at The Dance Center, 1306 S. JACK Sets Summer 2016 Season on Dance, Theatre & More

This summer, JACK presents the premiere of Toshiki Okada's Quiet, Comfort, commissioned by Hoi Polloi and directed by Alec Duffy, a duo of singer/performer Helga Davis and choreographer/dancer Ji?i Bartovanec (of the Sasha Waltz Dance Company), the premiere of the play The Animals, by Amina Henry, a new piece by choreographer Biba Bell, the second annual Brooklyn Experimental Song Carnival, curated by Valerie Kuehne, plus several concerts throughout the season.

Rose Art Museum Launches Sam Hunter Emerging Artists Fund

Christopher Bedford, Henry and Lois Foster Director of The Rose Art Museum, has announced the Sam Hunter Emerging Artists Fund, designed to discover promising artists, and the acquisition of the fund's first work, American painter David Schutter's “MMA 636 a2.”

Chinese Ink Artist Presents Solo Exhibition in Venice, Today

'Waiting for Qin Feng,' a solo exhibition of work by Chinese ink artist Qin Feng, will be on view in Venice from May 19-June 19, 2016. Installed in three locations including the former Monastery of San Giorgio Maggiore, now home to the Fondazione Giorgio Cini (the first contemporary Chinese art installation), The Armenian Catholic Monastery on San Lazzaro Island and Venice International University (VIU) on San Servolo Island, the exhibition will be presented in collaboration with the Fondazione Giorgio Cini and is curated by Achille Bonito Oliva and Ambassador Umberto Vattani. There will be a Vernissage and performance by Qin Feng at the former Monastery of San Giorgio Maggiore on May 19 beginning at 6pm, a seminar with the artist and curators on May 26 at the Navy Officer's Club at the Arsenale from 4pm-7pm and a press conference at VIU on May 27 at 3pm.

Milwaukee Art Museum Announces Dr. Marcelle Polednik as New Director

MILWAUKEE, May 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/The Milwaukee Art Museum board of trustees announced today it has selected Dr. Marcelle Polednik as the first Donna and Donald Baumgartner director. Polednik, currently the director and chief curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville, joins the Museum at a significant time in its history after an extensive $34 million renovation, reinstallation and expansion project, and the historic acquisition of the O'Donnell Property. Polednik was selected after a robust national search from a field of dozens of candidates. She is expected to start working at the Museum in mid-August.

STRAIGHT FROM CUBA: A WOMAN'S PERSPECTIVE Exhibition Opens Today at Lois Lambert Gallery

Last year's widely acclaimed 'Straight from Cuba' exhibition at the Lois Lambert Gallery showcased three male Cuban artists. Beginning today, May 14th, and continuing through July 10th, the Gallery will present a follow-up exhibition including the works of six female Cuban artists titled 'Straight from Cuba: A Woman's Perspective.'

Jack Whitten to Receive Honory Doctorate from Brandeis University

?Abstract artist Jack Whitten will receive an honorary doctorate degree from Brandeis University on May 22. Whitten, whose exhibition “Light Years” was featured at the Rose Art Museum in 2013, will be in conversation with Rose Director Christopher Bedford and Curator at Large Katy Siegel on Saturday May 21 at 2 p.m. in the Pollack Fine Arts Teaching Center.  Next year, a book of Whitten's writings, coedited by Siegel, will be published by the Rose.

Houston Grand Opera to Premiere THE ROOT OF THE WIND IS WATER, Today

Houston, January 13, 2016—Houston Grand Opera (HGO) will present the world premiere of The Root of the Wind Is Water, a chamber opera by composer David Hanlon and librettist Stephanie Fleischmann, directed by Matthew Ozawa, on May 13 at 7 p.m. at the Wortham Theater Center and on May 15 at 7 p.m. at The Grand 1894 Opera House in Galveston. Presented under the auspices of HGOco, the company's community collaboration and education initiative, The Root of the Wind Is Water explores the impact of hurricanes on the Texas Gulf Coast through the eyes of the residents who call the region home. The opera will be HGO's 61st world premiere.

New Museum Launches 40th Anniversary Capital Campaign for Expansion & Endowment

Lisa Phillips, Toby Devan Lewis Director, and James Keith Brown, President, announced today that the New Museum is launching an $80 million capital campaign to mark both the Museum's fortieth anniversary and its tenth year on the Bowery. The campaign, which will support expansion and growth of Museum programs and more than double the endowment, has already received $43 million in lead gifts from several members of the Board of Trustees.
