What do you get when you mix a thunderstorm, a flat tire, a creepy castle, a mad scientist, a muscle hunk, an old professor and a couple of other questionable characters? A night out that is destined to be one you will never forget!
The cast for TheatreWorks Florida's Central Florida Premiere of the musical ROCK OF AGES is dynamite; easily one of the two or three best collections of talent that I have seen on an Orlando stage in my three-plus seasons of Central Florida theatergoing. Director and choreographer Scott A. Cook has crafted an impressively ambitious production with a top-notch, multi-level set from James F. Beck. The silly show is trivial at best, but that is the exact mark that it aims to hit, and the onstage band, led by music director Shannon Kropf, rocks incredibly hard to some of the most recognizable tunes of the hairband-era.

Playwright Robert O'Hara provides the mood-setting intro for the West Coast premiere of his comedy BARBECUE now playing at the Geffen Playhouse in Westwood through October 16. And while his very off-color language is shocking at first, I guarantee it will start you laughing and prepare you for the very realistic language used throughout the play.
Musicals have an amazing way of transporting an audience to exciting, sometimes magical places. You might find yourself in the middle of a romantic kingdom, on the rooftops of turn-of-the-century London, or in the catacombs of a French opera house. But when the lights come up on the latest show at the Broad Brook Opera House, audiences find they have been transported to a place that is, well, a little less magical - the Armadillo Acres Trailer Park in Starke, Florida.
