The winner of four 2010 Tony awards including Best Musical, MEMPHIS celebrates its one year anniversary on Broadway Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at the Shubert Theatre. The Mayor's office has deemed tomorrow - Tuesday, October 19th MEMPHIS Day! The mayoral proclamation will be read directly after the curtain tomorrow on the show's year anniversary. In addition, one lucky audience member will win a trip for two to Memphis, Tennessee to see the opening night of MEMPHIS on tour at the Orpheum Theatre.

On Monday, October 4, 2010, Tony Award winning actress and Grey's Anatomy star Sara Ramirez and Emmy award winning television personality and the evening's host Carson Kressley, were joined by a host of Broadway stars for an intimate evening to celebrate Broadway Takes the Runway - an evening of fashion and song. All proceeds from the night will benefit the Al D. Rodriguez Liver Foundation, which honors the close friend of Ramirez and Kressley, who was lost to liver cancer in 2008. La Jolla Playhouse is pleased to announce that San Diego City Council will issue a proclamation designating Tuesday, September 28, 2010 to be La Jolla Playhouse 2010 Tony Award Day, in celebration of the 2010 Tony Award win for the hit Broadway musical Memphis, directed by Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley. Memphis highlighted the Playhouse's 2008/9 season before transferring to New York. The proclamation will be presented to Ashley by District 1 City Councilmember Sherri S. Lightner on September 28 at 10:00 am at City Council chambers (202 C Street, 12th Floor, San Diego).
