Review - Jackie Hoffman's A Chanukah Charol

The audience greets their star's entrance with a long round of enthusiastic cheers as she takes her place center stage and she, in turn, glares back at them with a look of unrestrained contempt.  That's the charm of Jackie Hoffman's relationship with her fans.  She always seems utterly annoyed at the prospect of being there and they love her for it.

BroadwayGirlNYC Picks: Holiday Events!

December means the holidays, and the holidays mean lots of special events in the world of Broadway! For an extensive list, BroadwayWorld's calendar has all multiple options for every day of December and beyond. Since no one can be everywhere at once, here are this holiday season's official BroadwayGirlNYC picks for the best of NYC theatre events! (On December 12, you'll have to flip a coin.)

Photo Coverage: In Rehearsal with Jackie Hoffman's A CHANUKAH CAROL

Michael Schiralli will direct. Performances will be Sunday December 11th, Sunday December 18th, Monday January 2nd (all at 7:30pm) at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street between Eighth & Ninth Avenues). BroadwayWorld was there for an open rehearsal for the show, and you can check out photos of Hoffman in action below!

Review - Milk and Honey

When Jerry Herman was pegged by producer Gerard Oestreicher to write the score for a Broadway musical set in the fledgling State of Israel, he was a 28-year-old composer/lyricist mostly known for writing clever lyrics and snazzy tunes for Greenwich Village topical reviews like Nightcap and Parade.  But now, instead of writing for hip, downtown performers like Charles Nelson Reilly and Dody Goodman, he'd be penning a romantic score for opera stars Mimi Benzell and Robert Weede, with special comic relief material for Yiddish Theatre legend Molly Picon.

Review - The Lyons: Ooh, Do You Love You!

When we first meet Rita Lyons, she's sitting in a hospital room casually thumbing through a furniture catalogue, asking her husband, Ben, who lies in bed, dying of cancer, to help her come up with ideas for redecorating the living room after he's gone.

Theater for the New City Presents The Capitalist Ventriloquist

'The Capitalist Ventriloquist' is a new musical comedy about dynastic hedge funds, the demands of billionaire investors, misguided parental expectations, and the struggle of the son of an imperious hedge fund owner for self-determination.

HARRY & EDDIE Begins Previews 8/25, Opens 9/8 at St. Luke's

'HARRY & EDDIE: The Birth of Israel' tells the largely-unknown story of how President Harry S. Truman's friendship with his former business partner, Eddie Jacobson, leads to the creation of Israel in 1948.
