SECONDSTORY REPERTORY announced THEATER FOR YOUNG AUDIENCES SEASON 15, including these one hour, family friendly, musicals are perfect for school aged children.
The Rose Theater, one of the country's largest theaters specializing in professional productions for young audiences, will present nine shows for the 2013-14 season. Included are two world premieres, Leo Lionni's Frederick, a musical based on the popular 1968 children's book, and The Grocer's Goblin & The Little Mermaid adapted from two Hans Christen Andersen tales by Rose Playwright-in-Residence Brian Guehring and Rose Director of Youth Productions Stephanie Jacobson.
Columbia Children's Theatre (CCT), the Midlands only professional theatre for families and young audiences will present the musical adaptation of Mo Willems' Caldecott Award-winning children's book Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Musical, April 12 - 21. Show times are Fridays at 7:00 p.m.; Saturdays at 10:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m.; and Sundays at 3:00 p.m.. All shows are held at Columbia Children's Theatre on the 2nd level of Richland Mall, 3400 Forest Drive. Tickets are $8.00 and can be purchased online at www.columbiachildrenstheatre.com. To commemorate the tenth anniversary of Mo Willems' award-winning Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!, Disney Publishing Worldwide will publish three new titles. Fans can take a drive down memory lane with It's a Busload of Pigeon Books!, a boxed set of three classic Pigeon titles at a smaller trim size and featuring an original poster illustrated by Mo Willems, publishing on April 2. Don't Pigeonhole Me!: Two Decades of the Mo Willems Sketchbook, available on June 18,gives adults a rare glimpse at Willems' early self-published Pigeon illustrations, along with two decades' worth of cartoons and sketches. Elephant and Piggie, Willems' New York Times best-selling duo, will also have a new book, titled A Big Guy Took My Ball!, publishing on May 21.

A father goes on an errand to the laundromat, with his pre-verbal daughter in tow. The laundry gets put into the machine but alas, so does the daughter's beloved stuffed bunny. Unable to communicate the loss, the child throws a tantrum, frustrating her father until they get home and mom identifies the crisis. The family races back to the laundromat and fish bunny from the suds. Dad is relieved, the little girl says her first words, and everybody's happy.

The Kennedy Center today announced Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Musical will make its international premiere at Arad Fort in Arad, Bahrain as part of Spring of Culture, the nation's largest cultural event, March 22-23, 2012. Additionally, Kennedy Center Tour General Manager Deirdre Lavrakas will lead three educational theater workshops from March 19 to 21 for teachers and grade school students in Bahrain. The production marks the first-ever international appearance for the Kennedy Center's Theater for Young Audiences (KCTYA) on Tour series.
