He's been recognized as a bona fide "genius" by DownBeat magazine and was named by GQ India as one of the 50 most influential Indians. The jazz pianist is also a prolific recording artist and his quintet will play the final Jazz Club performances of The Soraya's 2018/19 season on May 10 and 11.

The season marks the 20thanniversary of Harlem Stage's signature dance program E-Moves, which for two decades has nurtured and presented choreographers of color across the spectrum of contemporary dance idioms to create new work.The season also features collaborations with exciting new partners including the Prototype Festival and the French Institute Alliance Francaise (FIAF), and continued relationships with venerable arts institutions such as Repertorio Español, Carnegie Hall, Manhattan School of Music, and Chamber Music America.

The Kitchen presents Grammy nominee, MacArthur fellow composer-pianist Vijay Iyer's The What of the World (June 25-29), one of three weeklong residencies within The Racial Imaginary Institute's series On Whiteness. Iyer-noted in a New Yorker feature as "the most lauded piano player in jazz"-assembles a jaw-dropping group of cutting-edge artists across musical disciplines and creates what he refers to as an "affective archaeology" of systemic racism. This multifaceted residency is an exploration, from many perspectives, of what racial oppression feels like. Iyer's residency features four evening performances, as well as Iyer's new sound installation-titled How the Spotlight Sounds, with texts by Garnette Cadogan, author of "Walking While Black"-playing throughout the week.

The Frist Art Museum presents Frist Friday: An Evening of Chaos and Awe on Friday, July 27, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Inspired by the exhibitions Chaos and Awe: Painting for the 21st Century and The Presence of Your Absence Is Everywhere: Afruz Amighi, the evening will offer visitors opportunities to experience art in new and unexpected ways with live performances, interactive gallery activities, and food and drink specials.

On January 16, 2018 at 7:00pm, join Harlem Stage -- the legendary uptown venue that for over 30 years has been promoting the creative legacy of Harlem and artists of color -- for a special winter benefit performance that will honor the life and work of Ella Fitzgerald. This intimate evening will feature jazz icon Dee Dee Bridgewater and singing sensation W McDonald, of The Voice fame, as they pay tribute to the legendary Ella Fitzgerald in honor of her centennial. In the spirit of the best traditions in jazz, both of these artists will perform their own inimitable interpretations of the songs made famous by Ella.

Orpheus Chamber Orchestra opens its 2017-2018 season on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 8:00 p.m, presenting a performance in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall. The orchestra is joined by virtuoso pianist Andr Watts for Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 9, K. 271 Jeunehomme. The Harlem Stage dance series, E-Moves promises to present a broad spectrum of choreographers of color who work across the spectrum of contemporary idioms. This year the acclaimed dance series has commissioned new works from two established and two emerging choreographers. Under the curatorship of Charmaine Warren, the E-Moves 18 lineup includes four artists with work that intersects the questions and impact of the world around them. Francesca Harper who continues to seek answers for life's challenges; Parijat Desai whose work is realized through her unique blend of contemporary dance and Indian forms; Kyle Marshall who quietly investigates black culture through dance; and Leyland Simmons who makes ballets that break from the classical mold.
