Pianist Jon Nakamatsu To Perform Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 With Symphony Silicon Valley

Distinguished pianist Jon Nakamatsu will appear as soloist with Symphony Silicon Valley in its program, 'Petrushka & Rach 2,' Saturday evening, May 4, 2019, 8:00 pm and Sunday afternoon, May 5, 2019, 2:30 pm at the California Theatre (325 S 1st St, San Jose, CA 95113). Mr. Nakamatsu will perform Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2; the program will also include works by Igor Stravinsky.

Pianist Misha Dichter to Appear in Concert With Violinist Mark Peskanov And Cellist Julian Schwarz

Pianist Misha Dichter will appear in chamber music program with violinist Mark Peskanov and cellist Julian Schwarz as part of the Bargemusic Masterworks Series, Saturday evening, April 20, 2019, at 6 pm and Sunday afternoon, April 21, 2019, at 4 pm. The program will include Brahms' Piano Trio in B Major, Op. 18 No. 1 and Handel-Halvorsen's Passacaglia for Violin and Cello.

Mondavi Center Announces 2019-20 Season

The Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, UC Davis announces its 18th season of performing arts, filled with the leading artists in music, dance and theater alongside an insightful group of speakers. The season begins on Sunday, September 29, with a family-friendly performance from gospel true-believers Trey McLaughlin & The Sounds of Zamar and concludes June 7, 2020 with the Alexander String Quartet finishing a two-year cycle of the complete Shostakovich string quartets.

American Singer, Songwriter, Opera Diva Constance Hauman Releases New Album HIGH TIDES

High Tides is the second album by  Constance Hauman. Her critically acclaimed recording, Falling Into Now, made The Guardian's list of the 10 Best Albums of 2015. High Tides features eight new songs written by Hauman and two covers, Everlong by Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters and Les Chemins de l'Amour by French composer, Francis Poulenc. High Tides was produced by Constance Hauman and Ross Pederson - who was also the recording and mix engineer and performs throughout the album on drums, bass and midi.

Michael Tilson Thomas To Bring New World Symphony To Carnegie Hall

Next month, 2018-19 Carnegie Hall Perspectives Artist Michael Tilson Thomas brings to New York the postgraduate Fellows of his Miami-based New World Symphony, America's Orchestral Academy, which he co-founded more than 30 years ago as the nation's most innovative training ground for the next generation of classical musicians. As Artistic Director, he works with Fellows at the Frank Gehry-designed New World Center to further their artistic and professional development-guiding them according to NWS's experiential curriculum of live performance, hands-on training, and community engagement.

Salt Lake's Gifted Music School Quartet To Appear On NPR'S From The Top

The Bear Quartet of The Gifted Music School in Salt Lake City, Utah will appear on an upcoming episode of From the Top, the hit NPR radio program featuring America's best young classical musicians. The show will air on Classical 89, Saturday April 27 at 11 AM and by podcast at fromthetop.org beginning April 22. The broadcast features performances and interviews with outstanding young musicians and Guest Host Peter Dugan. The show was taped at the Hollywood Scoring Studio in Los Angeles on February 24, as part of a three-day From the Top residency, comprised of creative music making, career development, and community engagement, designed to enrich both personal and artistic growth for thirteen young musicians from throughout the country.

New Amsterdam Singers Performs TANGO MASS: May 16, 19

For its final concerts of the 2018-2019 season, New Amsterdam Singers, led by Music Director Clara Longstreth, will present music with roots in Argentina and Spain, featuring Misa a Buenos Aires/Misatango for chorus, strings, bandoneon, and piano by Argentine-born Martín Palmeri; two works by Astor Piazzolla from his cycle, Four Seasons of Buenos Aires; and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco's Romancero Gitano for chorus and guitar, on poetry by Federico Garcia Lorca. The concerts will take place Thursday, May 16, at 8:00 p.m., and Sunday, May 19, 2019, at 3:00 p.m., at The Church of the Holy Trinity, 316 East 88th Street (between First and Second Avenues).

One of the greatest conductors of his time, Mahler spent the fall, winter and spring on the podium. In the summer, he escaped to the Austrian countryside to compose. At the edge of a meadow, with a view of a lake and the Alpine mountains in the distance, Mahler had built a tiny hut with a desk, a piano and a book shelf where he would compose most of his greatest music including his Symphony No. 3 in D major.

Conductor Michael Tilson Thomas concludes his season-long Perspectives series at Carnegie Hall leading two performances by the New World Symphony, both featuring fellow Perspectivesartist and longtime collaborator pianist Yuja Wang. The first program on Wednesday, May 1 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage includes the New York premiere of Julia Wolfe's Fountain of Youth (co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall as part of its 125 Commissions Project), Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique, and Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 5, with Ms. Wang.

The Board of the Museum of Performance + Design takes great pleasure in announcing that Michael Tilson Thomas will be presented with the 2019 San Francisco Arts Medallion for his outstanding leadership in the arts on May 14, 2019, at Saint Joseph's Arts Society in San Francisco. The San Francisco Arts Medallion was created in 2005 by the Museum of Performance + Design (MP+D) to recognize those individuals whose leadership, action, and generosity have benefited the cultural life of the San Francisco Bay Area. Proceeds from the event benefit the preservation and educational programs at MP+D.

Metallica And San Francisco Symphony Announced As Inaugural Event For Chase Center

The back-to-back NBA Champion Golden State Warriors and Chase Center, the Warriors new 18,064-seat privately financed sports and entertainment arena in San Francisco's Mission Bay neighborhood, today announced that Metallica and the San Francisco Symphony will re-unite and perform together with special appearance by SFS Musical Director, Michael Tilson Thomas, and conducted by Edwin Outwater as the inaugural event at Chase Center on Friday, September 6, celebrating the 20th anniversary of their Grammy Award-Winning "Symphony and Metallica" (S&M) album. The show will be produced by Live Nation Entertainment and Another Planet Entertainment. Today's announcement was the first during the organization's "Reveal Week" - a week of announcements showcasing the first group of top-tier shows to perform at Chase Center this Fall.

The Cleveland Orchestra Announces 2019-20 Season

The Cleveland Orchestra and Music Director Franz Welser-M st announced details of their 2019-2020 season which encompasses 76 concerts over 26 weeks. One significant highlight includes a festival designed to explore music and art that was banned, marginalized, and destroyed during the Nazi's Degenerate Art movement, and the continuing impact of censorship on creative expression in society today. The festival will center on Alban Berg's Lulu, one of the 20th century's most influential operas, and includes partner programming with the area's notable arts institutions.

Kronos Presents Kronos Festival May 2019

The San Francisco-based Kronos Quartet/Kronos Performing Arts Association(KPAA) is pleased to present Kronos Festival 2019, Kronos' fifth annual, three-day music festival, at SFJAZZ Center on May 30-June 1. Kronos Festival 2019 will highlight the voices of singers, storytellers, and activists over three evening concerts, a Saturday morning family concert and Kronos Labs, free public events that are new this year.
