Pivot Arts Launches PIVOT MULTI-ARTS FESTIVAL, 6/6-22

Pivot Arts launches a new celebration of innovative theater, music and dance in unique and often historic spaces from June 6 - 22, 2013 throughout Chicago's Uptown and Edgewater neighborhoods. The inaugural PIVOT MULTI-ARTS FESTIVAL answers the City's call for a reinvigorated Uptown Entertainment District by uniting artists, businesses and local organizations around multidisciplinary "pop-up" performances occurring in a former Vaudeville Theater, an at-one-time Charlie Chaplin film studio and other historic spaces throughout these communities. Tickets are now on sale, with a range of free events and no more than $15 per event. Theatre Communications Group Holds Audience (R)Evolution Learning Convening in Philadelphia, 2/20-22

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, has announced the speakers and programming for the Audience (R)Evolution Learning Convening at the Chemical Heritage Foundation in Philadelphia, PA, February 20-22. This multiday convening will bring 200 theatre practitioners and cultural workers together to share research and explore models from the cutting edge of audience engagement and community development.

WAITING FOR YOU... Opens KC Rep's Workshop Series, 2/8-17

A developmental production of Sojourn Theatre and The TEAM's Waiting for You on the Corner of {13th and Walnut}, kicks off the Rep's First Page New Play Workshop on Friday, February 8. Commissioned by Kansas City Repertory Theatre, this show runs through February 17 at Copaken Stage located at 13th and Walnut.

KC Rep Adds FIRST PAGE New Play Workshop to Spring 2013 Season, 2/8-3/2

Kansas City Repertory Theatre is pleased to announce the launch of First Page New Play Workshop, a four-week event developed by the Rep to foster new works by local and national theatre artists. First Page will follow a playwright's concept as it evolves from the first spark of an idea into a successful new script or theatrical production. All events will take place at Copaken Stage, 13th and Walnut in Kansas City, MO.

Theatre Bay Area Releases Study on Impact of Live Theatre, 3/12

Theatre Bay Area and the research firm WolfBrown announce the completion of the book Counting New Beans: Intrinsic Impact and the Value of Art. The book contains the final report of "Measuring the Intrinsic Impact of Live Theatre," and interviews with more than 20 prominent artistic directors in the United States, and essays by industry thought-leaders Diane Ragsdale, Arlene Goldbard, Rebecca Novick, and more. A book tour will launch March 12 in Chicago, and will visit eight cities in the United States including Minneapolis, Boston, New York, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Counting New Beans: Intrinsic Impact and the Value of Art is now available for purchase at www.theatrebayarea.org/intrinsicimpact. Also available on the site are the executive summary of the work and interview excerpts, available free of charge.

OSF Features New Commissions From Diaz, Friedman, Galati, Hudes, Stew & Rodewald

At a press conference yesterday the Oregon Shakespeare Festival provided a comprehensive picture of the scope of new work underway over the next several season supported by grants totaling more than $800,000. OSF recently received a grant of $600,000 from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation over three years (2010-2012) for the decade-long commissioning, production, and public dialogue initiative American Revolutions: the United States History Cycle. The Edgerton Foundation of Los Angeles, California awarded OSF a four-year $200,000 grant to support the commissioning of five new American musicals, putting OSF in the unique position of creating new American musicals with a resident acting company.

CHESS, KILLER JOE et al. Win Big at Jeff Awards Jun. 7

The Jeff Awards for the 2009-2010 season of non-equity theater in Chicago were presented on June 7, 2010, the Chicago Sun-Times reported today. Tracy Letts' (AUGUST:OSAGE COUNTY) KILLER JOE, presented by the Profiles Theatre, won the award for best production of a play, while CHESS, written by Tim Rice, Benny Andersson, and Bjorn Ulvaeus and presented by the Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre in association with Michael James, won the award for best production of a musical. Both productions also picked up additional awards--CHESS for best director, choreographer, principal actor, principal actress, supporting actor, and musical direction and KILLER JOE for best director and principal actor.
