BWW Review: BUDDY - THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY at Theatre By The Sea

Theatre By the Sea (TBTS) in Wakefield, RI (I would have thought Matunuck) opens its season with a rousing version of BUDDY-THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY, a jukebox musical in two acts with a book written by Alan Janes, and music and lyrics by a variety of songwriters, mostly of course, Buddy Holly. Based on the life and career of the early rock and roller, the musical hews more closely to Holly's actual life story than the 1978 film version, which starred Gary Busey, and follows Holly from his struggles to escape country music and establish himself as a rocker, to his untimely death in a plane crash in 1959.

In just three short years, Buddy Holly set the music world on fire and forever changed the face and sound of rock and roll. BUDDY - THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY, the musical that charts his meteoric climb, legendary adventures and tragic fall on the fateful day the music died, will open the 2016 Musical season at Bill Hanney's award-winning Theatre By The Sea (TBTS), playing from June 1 thru June 19, 2016.

Maryland Ensemble Theatre's METLab Festival of New Work Set for Next Month

Maryland Ensemble Theatre is proud to announce the creation of a festival of new works in this summer's METLab. The festival will feature a "Plays in Progress" series that will include a full production and staged readings at various levels of development including a chance to see the same work at different stages. The festival will also feature free "Coffee House Readings" staged in a relaxed atmosphere with live music, wine and of course java.  All plays are by Maryland natives.  MET Artistic Director Tad Janes is enthusiastic about sharing these original works with MET audiences.
