Acorn Productions Opens 2nd Season of FAIRY TALE PLAYERS PRODUCTIONS, 11/5

Acorn Productions begins the second season of Fairy Tale Players at the company's Acorn Studio Theater at the Dana Warp Mill in Westbrook with an adaptation of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. The production is adapted and directed by Acorn's Director of Children's Programming, Keith Anctil, and features young performers who have been taking classes at Acorn over the past few years. 'Fairy Tale Players offers these talented youngsters a chance to take the next logical step in their development as actors,' says Acorn's Producing Director Michael Levine. 'Working on a fully-developed piece of theater allows them to complete the training process by applying what they have learnt in our classes to professionally-produced public performances.' The Fairy Tale Players presents classic fairy tales with a contemporary twist, adding modern references and tongue-in-cheek humor to create original adaptations that entertain family members of all ages. The Three Billy Goats Gruff will be performed 9 times between November 5 and 21, with tickets ranging from $5 for kids 12 and under to $7 for adults. Call Acorn at 854-0065 or visit www.acorn-productions.org for more info or to order tickets.

Acorn Productions Presents LIFTING ROCKS and A COMET'S TALE, 10/29

Acorn Productions continues the 2010/11 Studio Series of Friday Night Dramatic Readings in the Acorn Studio Theater with an evening featuring 2 one-act plays by Howard Rosenfield. Both plays are metaphorical in nature with strong influences from existential philosophy, absurdist drama, and the comedy of Laurel and Hardy. 'A Comet's Tale' begins when a failed suicide attempt lands Harry in Limbo, where events lead him to re-think his life-- and his choice. Both plays were developed by Rosenfield during sessions of 'Playwrights Lab,' a regular class taught by Acorn's Producing Director Michael Levine at the Acorn Acting Academy. As a result of script development done during the class, 'Lifting Rocks' was one of three one acts recently chosen for full production in January of 2011 at the Firehouse Theater Center in Newburyport, MA. focuses on how a summer job at a rock quarry changes a young man's view of work-- and of himself.

The Acorn Shakespeare Ensemble presents the second annual outdoor installment of the company's popular 'Sonnets and Soliloquies' on Monday, September 13 at 5:30 p.m. in Monument Square in Portland (rain date is Thursday, September 16th).
