You're invited to the 1958 prom as MUSICAL Theatre West ushers in spring with the Roger Bean smash Off-Broadway musical hit, The Marvelous Wonderettes. The Marvelous Wonderettes began previews on Friday, April 16 and opened Saturday, April 17. The show will play through May 2 at the beautiful Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach.

There is a sort of darling, cheerful innocence associated with youth in the 50's, which, by contrast, is ridiculously tame by today's standards. Mixing old-fashioned values, quirky fashions, and infectious pop music that is oh-so-cute and saccharine, it is no wonder that many wax nostalgic for an era that came before the rise of cynicism, mistrust, and a disenfranchised counter-culture took hold of a nation still fixing itself. So upon seeing the sparkly, prom-decorated gymnasium set for Musical Theatre West's regional production of Roger Bean's Off-Broadway hit THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES (continuing through May 2), one can't help but feel warm and fuzzy for what's about to happen. For a solid two hours-plus, it was certainly nice traveling back to pre-hardened times, and to be enveloped and shielded in the show's very cozy, comforting embrace.

Some of the greatest songwriters of the past 50 years convened in New York City on Tuesday, December 8 for The Songs of Our Lives: Performed by the Songwriters Who Wrote Them, a benefit concert for Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.

As The Marvelous Wonderettes continues its dream run at the Westside Theatre, the production proudly welcomes its three newest Wonderettes. Kirsten Bracken joins the cast as 'Suzy' and Christina DeCicco steps into the role of 'Cindy Lou' on Monday, June 8. Lindsay Mendez begins as 'Betty Jean' on Sunday, June 14.

As The Marvelous Wonderettes continues its dream run at the Westside Theatre, the production proudly welcomes its three newest Wonderettes. The Marvelous Wonderettes celebrates its 200th performance at the Westside Theatre on Saturday, March 7 (8:00 PM show). The non-stop pop musical comedy written and directed by Roger Bean began previews on August 29, 2008 and had its Official Opening on September 14.

As The Marvelous Wonderettes continues its dream run at the Westside Theatre, Misty Cotton joins the production as 'Missy' on Friday, March 6. She joins fellow cast mates Beth Malone, Bets Malone and Victoria Matlock in this non-stop pop musical comedy written and directed by Roger Bean. The Marvelous Wonderettes began previews on August 29, 2008 and the show celebrated its Official Opening on September 14. Farah Alvin, who originated the role of 'Missy' Off-Broadway, plays her final performance on Sunday, March 1.

The Marvelous Wonderettes has announced that Misty Cotton, who played the role of Missy back in the Laguna Playhouse production of the show will join the show Off-Broadway (replacing Farah Alvin) on March 6.
