Music's Biggest Night - the GRAMMYs - is here! Live from STAPLES Center, and hosted by Alicia Keys, the 61st Annual GRAMMY Awards will be broadcast on CBS at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT.
Since 2010, Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center (BMCM+AC) has hosted the {Re}HAPPENING inspired by John Cage's 1952 Theatre Piece No. 1, an unscripted performance at Black Mountain College considered by many to be the first Happening. The annual {Re}HAPPENING brings together dozens of contemporary artists whose work responds to and extends the legacy of Black Mountain College visionaries such as John Cage, David Tudor, Merce Cunningham, M.C. Richards and Robert Rauschenberg. The 2019 {Re}HAPPENING celebrates the influence of non-western music on such legendary artists by showcasing contemporary musicians who continue the legacy of experimental music within a global context. As part of the international Merce Cunningham Centennial Celebration, BMCM+AC will juxtapose these contemporary performances and installations alongside projections of historic Cunningham dance footage, including Variations V, a collaboration with John Cage and fellow BMC faculty Stan VanDerBeek.
On February 22, composer, songwriter and keyboardist Eliot Krimsky will release his debut solo album, Wave in Time, via Pretty Purgatory. Perhaps best known for his work as the frontman and co-founder of the band Glass Ghost, Krimsky has performed extensively in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Mexico. He has shared stages with Deerhoof, Dirty Projectors, and Sharon Van Etten and collaborated with the likes of Meshell Ndegeocello, Here We Go Magic, Shearwater and members of Xiu Xiu over the last decade. Wave in Time features his distinctive falsetto voice—alongside sprawling, cinematic ambience and incisive, hook-heavy electronic pop—singing of fear, despair, humanity, and hope. These are powerful, affirmative anthems of and for this moment.
National Sawdust continues its fourth season, HEAR IT NEW!, this spring. The organization expands its commitment to the local and national arts scenes through presentations by nationally and internationally acclaimed artists, and expands its mission beyond its physical walls through a new series.
Harlem Stage, the legendary uptown venue that for over 35 years has promoted the creative legacy of Harlem and artists of color from around the corner and across the globe, is proud to present its Spring 2019 season of performances. The season marks the 20thanniversary of Harlem Stage's signature dance program E-Moves, which for two decades has nurtured and presented choreographers of color across the spectrum of contemporary dance idioms to create new work.The season also features collaborations with exciting new partners including the Prototype Festival and the French Institute Alliance Francaise (FIAF), and continued relationships with venerable arts institutions such as Repertorio Español, Carnegie Hall, Manhattan School of Music, and Chamber Music America.

In an election year marked by an outpouring of grassroots energy, artists are also working hard to make electoral change in the midterms. So far, 15 artists spanning a variety of genres have recorded songs for a free digital album, Songs for Swing Left. This is not a standard PSA or call to vote: downloading any of the tracks on this album will connect listeners to other Swing Left volunteers in their area as well as match them with high-impact things they can do (like canvassing and calling voters in nearby Swing Districts) to help flip the House blue in the upcoming midterm elections. There will be more tracks released as the election nears.

The trek, kicking off today, will hit Washington DC, Boston and her native New York City (Dates below.) Love Again was released May 4th via Cleopatra Records and is Davis' first studio album in thirteen years.
Swiss music ensemble Sonar will be releasing their new live album “Live At Moods” with guest soloist/texturalist David Torn on November 16, 2018 on 7d Media. It was recorded live at Moods Jazz Club in Zürich, Switzerland, on May 24th 2018.
On “Camelot,” the beautiful, sensual new single from Sy Smith's critically acclaimed new album 'Sometimes A Rose Will Grow in Concrete,' the “Queen of Underground Soul” takes us on a heavenly, throwback-quiet-storm type of journey; inviting us to dream and fantasize along with her about the perfect love, “all in my mind.” The track, the third single from the collection following “Now and Later” and “Perspective,” will be serviced to Urban AC radio on September 24.

Acclaimed director Ava DuVernay's short-form film entitled “August 28: A Day in the Life of a People” will make its national television debut on Tuesday, August 28 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on OWN. Starring Lupita Nyong'o, Angela Bassett, Don Cheadle, Regina King, David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, André Holland, Michael Ealy and Glynn Turman, DuVernay's 22-minute scripted film uses a robust combination of both documentary and narrative techniques to transport viewers through six stunning historical moments that all actually occurred on the same day in various years.

New York City music lovers will get to experience a wonderful array of French produced music this summer when the festival FRANCEROCKS SUMMERFEST returns. The month-long music festival-the largest of its kind in the US-will showcase the expansive wealth of multifarious French talent as well as international artists who draw their inspiration from France. The lineup includes over 25 soaring artists spanning genres from indie pop, rock, eclectic world and electronic that spawn an exciting melting pot of sounds. Free and ticketed shows at over 25 venues range from Central Park Summerstage and Lincoln Center to Brooklyn's Northside Festival and Brooklyn Steel as well as intimate performance spaces throughout New York City.
