Merle Haggard & The Strangers to Play Harris Center, 6/3-4

If the question were asked, 'Who forged the genre known today as modern country music?' only a tiny group of country immortals could step forward to share the spotlight. One, out of that select handful, would be Merle Haggard. 'He is the greatest country artist of our times' (Rolling Stone). After 65 albums, over 40 Number 1 hit singles, over 50 awards from just about everybody, his status as living and ongoing legend is secure. He's back by popular demand following his sold out performances over the last two seasons at Harris Center for the Arts.

Lincoln Center Announces OUT OF DOORS 2014 Summer Festival Lineup; Runs 7/20-8/10

The schedule for this summer's Lincoln Center Out of Doors festival, which runs from July 20 to August 10, was announced today by Bill Bragin, Lincoln Center's Director of Public Programming. Nearly 100 free performances will take place across the plazas of Lincoln Center during three weeks. A special Memorial Concert for Pete and Toshi Seeger on July 20 will be followed by the official opening concert on July 23 with Larry Harlow's Hommy: A Latin Opera, the landmark work's first performance in 40 years. Steve Tyrell and Friends Join the Houston Symphony Tonight

On Today, March 13, the Houston Symphony will continue its legendary centennial celebration by performing alongside one of the leading figures in the recording industry, Steve Tyrell. Under the leadership of Houston Symphony Associate Conductor Robert Franz, Tyrell and the orchestra will perform American standards like 'You're So Nice to Come Home To,' 'The Way You Look Tonight' and 'I Get a Kick Out of You,' to name just a few. The Grammy Award-winning Tyrell will also invite his friends Diane Schuur, Judith Hill and Lew Soloff to the stage to share the evening with him as he sings the night away to timeless classics in this one-night only special performance.

Annenberg Space for Photography Announces 'Country: Portraits of an American Sound', 5/31

The Annenberg Space for Photography today announced its next exhibition, Country: Portraits of an American Sound. This exhibit presents images of the pioneers, poets and icons of country music, and will be offered free to the public May31 through September 28, 2014. Guest curators for this exhibit are Shannon Perich of the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, and Tim Davis and Michael McCall of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
