McCarter Theatre Opens Season with AURELIA'S ORATORIO, 9/10-10//17

McCarter Theatre will open its 2010-2011 season with Aurelia's Oratorio, conceived and directed by Victoria Thierrée Chaplin and starring Aurélia Thierrée. The production, which takes the audience through a surreal world of impossibilities and magical transformations, will play McCarter's Berlind Theatre from September 10 through October 17. (Press Opening: Thursday, September 16). The show, which runs 70 minutes without an intermission, is recommended for ages 10 and up. Aurelia's Oratorio is presented in association with ArKtype and Crying Out Loud UK.

KEEP YOUR BAGGAGE WITH YOU Extends Run at TNC

Theater for the New City has announced that Keep Your Baggage With You (at all times), written by Jonathan Blitstein and directed by Daniel Talbott, will begin an extension of 10 performances starting Thursday September 16th at 7pm at Theater for the New City, 155 First Avenue, between 9th and 10th Streets. Keep Your Baggage With You (at all times) was first presented as part of the Dream Up New Plays Festival in early August 2010.

Yale Rep Presents WE HAVE ALWAYS LIVED IN THE CASTLE 9/17-10/9

YALE REPERTORY THEATRE (James Bundy, Artistic Director; Victoria Nolan, Managing Director) presents the world premiere of WE HAVE ALWAYS LIVED IN THE CASTLE, September 17-October 9, at the University Theatre (222 York Street).

TV: Robert Foxworth Stars in King Lear at Old Globe

Robert Foxworth plays King Lear and Bruce Turk the Fool in Shakespeare's tragedy, directed by Festival Artistic Director Adrian Noble. The crowns are swapped in Alan Bennett's The Madness of George III, also helmed by Noble, where Miles Anderson will play King George III and Foxworth will play Dr. Willis. The Festival also includes Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew directed by Ron Daniels with Jonno Roberts and Emily Swallow as the two sparring lovers.

Yankee Tavern Set For ACT Theatre 7/30-8/29

From the acclaimed playwright who brought to ACT the world premiere of Becky's New Car (2008), comes the Seattle premiere of Yankee Tavern, a taut edge of your seat political thriller written and directed by Steven Dietz.

Theater at the Tank Presents Endurance 11/4-7

Office gymnastics meets daring Antarctic exploration in the unlikely setting of a Hartford insurance office in this inventive and funny piece. Masters of movement, Split Knuckle Theatre, have performed their original, fascinating works internationally and will bring the World Premiere of Endurance to The Tank November 4-7 at 7pm.

Albee Talks ME, MYSELF & I and 5 Decades in the Theatre

He is one of the most admired and accomplished playwrites of all time. Edward Albee has given the theater canon such classics as Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, The Zoo Story, A Delicate Balance, Seascape, The Goat or, and Three Tall Women. Now, more than 5 decades after the premiere of The Zoo Story, which put a 30 year-old Albee on the map, the playwright is still at it, with his latest (and 30th play), Me, Myself & I, opening at Playwrights Horizons on September 12, 2010. Previews began last night, August 24.

Playwrights Horizons Opens 40th Anniversary Season with ME, MYSELF & I, 8/24-10/10

Rehearsals are now underway for the Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) New York premiere of Edward Albee's ME, MYSELF & I, a new play by the three-time Pulitzer Prize and three-time Tony Award winner (A Delicate Balance; Seascape; Three Tall Women; Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?; The Goat or, Who Is Sylvia?). The production opens the theater company's 40th Anniversary Season, in which Mr. Albee will be making his Playwrights Horizons debut. The play is Mr. Albee's 30th.

The Savannah Disputation Premieres at Olney July 28 - Aug. 22

The Savannah Disputation, written by Evan Smith, plays the Mainstage July 28 through August 22. Tickets are $26 to $54, with discounts available to groups, seniors, military, and students. TheatreWorks Launches 9th Annual New Works Festival, 8/8-22

TheatreWorks, the nationally-acclaimed theatre of Silicon Valley, continues its commitment to the creation and development of new works with the 2010 New Works Festival, sponsored by Microsoft. The ninth annual Festival, August 8-22 at TheatreWorks at Lucie Stern Theatre, features fifteen days of new works unveiled to the public, including new musicals, new plays, a cabaret concert, and a panel discussion. This year's festival will feature a developmental production of the funny and inspirational musical FLY BY NIGHT from Kim Rosenstock, Will Connolly, and Michael Mitnick. Additionally announced for this summer's lineup are staged readings of two musicals: GREAT WALL, a vibrant pop musical from Kevin Merritt and Kevin So (with Tony Award-winner David Henry Hwang as a story consultant), and the moving gospel and jazz musical RED CLAY from Jeff Hughes and Scott Ethier. The festival will also feature readings of two plays: HOW TO WRITE A NEW BOOK FOR THE BIBLE, the latest piece from New Works Festival veteran Bill Cain (Equivocation) and VARIATIONS ON A THEME, a luminous drama by Anna Ziegler. Audience members are invited to a Meet the Artists Panel at 7:30pm on August 15. The panel discussion will give an inside look at what it's like to write for the stage. Festival composers, performers, and special guests will share a wealth of new songs and treasured favorites at Festival: Unplugged, Songs in the Key of New, a cabaret concert on Friday, August 20. Frank Kuhn directs The Drunkard at Metropoiitan 9/18-10/17

Metropolitan Playhouse, 'theatrical archaeologist extraordinaire' (Backstage), presents a revival of The Drunkard, or The Fallen Saved by W. H. Smith. First presented in Boston in 1844, and later by P.T. Barnum in New York in 1848, The Drunkard now receives its first professional production in the city since 1993. Frank Kuhn comes to New York to direct Metropolitan's revival at 220 E 4th Street September 18th through October 17th, 2010.

Circle Theatre Presents Bach at Leipzig, Previews Begin 8/19

Circle Theatre is pleased to present the North Texas premiere of Bach at Leipzig, written by Itamar Moses. Preview performances are Thursday, August 19; Friday, August 20; and Saturday, August 21 (matinee). The production officially opens Saturday evening, August 21 at 7:30pm, followed by a post-show party with the cast & crew.
