BWW Likes: Historic Winter Storm and LES MIZ

BroadwayWorld.com noticed something today as we scoured Facebook and it's something that we really liked, so we wanted to share it with you because it's not so often that you find such generosity for actors. This weekend, all roads lead to St. Louis as actors are headed there from all over the country to audition for the Muny's summer production of LES MISERABLES directed by Richard Jay-Alexander and with music direction by Kevin Stites.

Meryl Tankard's THE ORACLE Performs at NYU Skirball, Now thru 2/9

Australian choreographer Meryl Tankard returns to New York with one of her most gripping works to date. The Oracle is set to Stravinsky's seminal composition for the infamous 1913 ballet The Rite of Spring, which caused riots at its Paris premiere. The Oracleexplores the conflicting forces of nature and man, masculinity and femininity, violence and nurturing, strength and vulnerability. An intense solo for virtuosic performer Paul White, one of Australia's greatest dancers and incoming member of Pina Bausch's Tanztheater Wuppertal, The Oracle includes haunting visual and set designer by Regis Lansac. The U.S. premiere took place on February 5 at 7:30pm at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, NJ, as part of a seven-city U.S. tour.

I'LL BE BACK BEFORE MIDNIGHT Makes LA Premiere at Colony Theatre, Now thru 3/3

The Colony Theatre will present the fifth production of its 'Season of Premieres' with the Los Angeles Premiere of I'LL BE BACK BEFORE MIDNIGHT, written and directed by Peter Colley. I'LL BE BACK BEFORE MIDNIGHT will preview tonight, February 6; Thursday, February 7; and Friday, February 8 at 8:00pm. It will open on Saturday, February 9 at 8:00pm and continue through Sunday, March 3 at The Colony Theatre, 555 North Third Street (at Cypress) adjacent to the Burbank Town Center.

2009 NJ State Council on the Arts' Literary Artist Fellowship Program Winners to Showcase Work in 2013

Winners of the 2009 New Jersey State Council on the Arts' Literary Artist Fellowship Program will present their work in Madison, Hoboken, Long Beach Island and Somerville over the next few months. Prose writers Iyanna Jones, Pamela Burke and Emil Draitser will present solo readings of selected stories at Monroe Arts Center on March 9, 2013 at 7:30pm. Playwright Dominique Cieri will have a reading of her play Count Down performed on March 16, 2013 at 7pm at Fairleigh Dickinson University. She also had a reading of her play The Baby Killer Play on December 18, 2012. Additionally, playwright, Pia Wilson, had a reading of her play The River Pure for Healing on December 14, 2012. Both readings were held at Fairleigh Dickinson University as part of Playwrights Theatre's FORUM Roundtable Reading Series. Poets Kathleen Graber and Peter Murphy as well as Young Adult Prose writer, Toni De Palma, will read their works at a site to be determined in Southern New Jersey. In May, prose writers Eson Kim and Roxanne (Ruchama) Feuerman will present selections from their works at a site to be determined.

New Jersey Symphony Orchestra Cancels LA TRAVIATA, 2/8

Due to production and timing complications, Opera New Jersey and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra have cancelled the February 1 and February 8, 2013, performances of La traviata at the McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in Newark, respectively.

Lincoln Center Theater/LCT3's 2012-2013 season continues Monday, February 11 at 7pm with the opening of LUCK OF THE IRISH, a new play by Kristen Greenidge, directed by Rebecca Taichman, and featuring Marsha Stephanie Blake, Eisa Davis, Dashiell Eaves, Frank Harts, Robert Hogan, Jenny O'Hara, Carra Patterson, Amanda Quaid and Victor Williams, at the Claire Tow Theater, LCT3's new home atop the Vivian Beaumont Theater (150 West 65th Street).

Tickets for the Broadway Premiere of Christopher Durang's Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, which comes on the heels of its sold-out run at Lincoln Center, are now on sale to the general public via telecharge.com or by calling (212) 239-6200. The 17-week strictly limited Broadway engagement is set to begin performances on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Broadway's Golden Theatre. Directed by Nicholas Martin, the Broadway production will feature the entire original company, which includes Sigourney Weaver, David Hyde Pierce, Kristine Nielsen, Genevieve Angelson, Shalita Grant, and Billy Magnussen. Opening night is set for Thursday, March 14, 2013.

Shakespeare Theatre to Present 'Hero/Traitor Repertory' with CORIOLANUS and WALLENSTEIN, 3/28-6/2

The Shakespeare Theatre Company, recipient of the 2012 Regional Theatre Tony Award, probes the burdens of leadership and the price of power in its Hero/Traitor Repertory of Coriolanus and Wallenstein. In the hands of The Studio Theatre's Artistic Director David Muse and STC's Artistic Director Michael Kahn, this pairing of Shakespearean and German epics challenges the concept of control among military and government institutions. Coriolanus and Wallenstein play at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW) from March 28-June 2, 2013.

Arden Theatre Company's A RAISIN IN THE SUN Begins 3/7

Arden Theatre Company, now celebrating its 25th Season of great stories by great storytellers, presents A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry. Directed by Walter Dallas, A Raisin in the Sun will run March 7-April 21 on the Arden's F. Otto Haas Stage.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey Announces 2013 Season

Producers Joey Parnes, Larry Hirschhorn, and John O'Boyle announced today that Christopher Durang's Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike is headed to Broadway on the heels of its sold-out premiere at Lincoln Center. BroadwayWorld previously reported that the Lincoln Center Theater production of Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, a new play by Christopher Durang, directed by Nicholas Martin might be heading to Broadway in the near future. Now, rumors are cirulating that it might be heading for the Golden Theatre in March 2013.

PURE, CHICAGO BOYS and More Set for 2013 McCarterLab Spring Festival, 2/8

Join some of the most talented emerging and established playwrights of the American theater during the McCarterLab Spring Festival 2013. Hear new plays read aloud in this series of unstaged readings beginning Friday, February 8 through Saturday, February 23. All events are free, but seating is limited and reservations are encouraged.
