Photo Flash: NYC Parks Cuts Ribbon on Fort Washington Park Restoration

NYC Parks Commissioner Veronica M. White today joined City Council Members Robert Jackson and local youths to cut the ribbon on a new playground and ballfields in Fort Washington Park in northern Manhattan, one of eight regional parks being transformed under PlaNYC, the City's long-term plan for a greener, greater New York. The regional parks help address the need for open space for the City's growing population. Scroll down for photos!

McCarren Ice Rink Opens for Inaugural Season

NYC Parks First Deputy Commissioner Liam Kavanagh today joined Executive Director of the Open Space Alliance/North Brooklyn Parks Administrator Ed Janoff, Assembly Member Joseph Lentol, Senator Daniel Squadron, Council Member Steve Levin and NY1's Pat Kiernan to open the McCarren Ice Rink, the only public ice rink in North Brooklyn, for its inaugural season. The rink, which officially opened to the public at 11:00 a.m. will be a major holiday destination in North Brooklyn, offering skating classes, clinics and demonstrations, in addition to providing a pro shop, skate rentals and skate sharpening.

VIDEO: Explosions in the Sky Paint PRINCE AVALANCHE Mural in Brooklyn

Explosions In The Sky & David Wingo's stirring soundtrack for David Gordon Green's meditative new film, Prince Avalanche, was released last week. To accompany its release, a beautiful panoramic mural was painted on a wall across from McCarren Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Jeremy deVine, founder of the band's longtime label Temporary Residence Ltd., documented the painting of Esteban Rey's signature artwork. Check out the video below!

This year's event includes 34 shows in 24 days with over 150 clown performers from 16 countries including Finland, Mexico, France, New Zealand, and Wales. The festival also features classes taught by world-famous clown teachers, a clown-sourced iPhone-created silent film project and a performance by the co-creator and lead performer of Cirque de Soleil's Ovo! The Brick Theater, Inc. brings the festival back this fall, performing tonight, September 7th-30th at The Brick in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

The National New Play Network Announces 30th Rolling World Premiere: GUAPA by Caridad Svich

The NATIONAL NEW PLAY NETWORK (NNPN), the country's alliance of non-profit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, announces its 30th Rolling World Premiere: Caridad Svich's Guapa will receive three productions through the Network's Continued Life of New Plays Fund in the 2012/13 season, the Network's 15th.

EPIX and its exclusive cable distribution partner in New York City, Verizon FiOS, announced today the first annual EPIX Movie Free-for-All powered by Verizon FiOS, providing movies and underwriting for local programs that will draw up to 100,000 attendees in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens this summer.

Woodshed Collective Hosts Launch Party for The Tenant

Woodshed Collective has announced that it will host a launch party for its upcoming production of The Tenant on Thursday, May 19 at Brooklyn's The Green Building, 452 Union Street, located just steps from the F Stop at Carroll Street. The evening will include performances by Gordon Voidwell and DJing by Smirk, as well as a performance by a very special, surprise guests.
