Jewish Museum Presents BANG ON A CAN Performance Piece Tonight

New York, NY - Bang on a Can: Beauty Is Power, a concert featuring 'cello goddess' (The New Yorker) Maya Beiser, will take place at the Jewish Museum tonight, January 29 at 7:30pm. Tied to the Museum's exhibition, Helena Rubinstein: Beauty Is Power, the first exhibition about the legendary cosmetics entrepreneur and trendsetting art collector Helena Rubinstein, the performance will highlight powerful women composers. This program is the third concert of the Jewish Museum and Bang on a Can's partnership to produce a series of dynamic musical performances at the Museum from June 2014 to May 2015, inspired by the Jewish Museum's diverse slate of exhibitions.

Detroit Symphony Orchestra Announces 2015-16 Season

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) announced programming today for its 2015-16 Orchestra Hall Classical, Pops, and Young People's Family Subscription Series. The new season reflects absolutely no increases in individual ticket prices.

Simone Dinnerstein to Release New Album in February

Sony Classical will release pianist Simone Dinnerstein's next album, Broadway-Lafayette, in the US on February 24, 2015. The music on this album celebrates the time-honored transatlantic link between France and America through the music of George Gershwin (Rhapsody in Blue), Maurice Ravel (Piano Concerto in G Major), and Philip Lasser (The Circle and the Child: Concerto for Piano and Orchestra, written for Dinnerstein). The album was recorded with conductor Kristjan Järvi and the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra, by Grammy-winning producer Adam Abeshouse.

On Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 7pm, acclaimed pianist Simone Dinnerstein will perform a special holiday concert presented by The Metropolitan Museum of Art in The Grace Rainy Rogers Auditorium (1000 Fifth Avenue). The Met Museum Presents concert, Simone Dinnerstein for the Holidays, features Poulenc's Suite francaise, Debussy'sSuite bergamasque, George Crumb's A Little Suite for Christmas, and Schubert's Sonata in B-flat major, D. 960.

Neighborhood Classics to Present Violinist Rachel Barton Pine, 11/18; 'Violin Invasion' Set for 11/17

?Neighborhood Classics presents celebrated violinist Rachel Barton Pine in concert on Tuesday, November 18 at 7pm at P.S. 321 in Brooklyn (180 Seventh Ave.). Pine will perform Bach's Sonata in G Minor and selections from Paganini's 24 Caprices, Op. 1, plus new works dedicated to her from New York composers Mohammed Fairouz (“For Egypt” from Sonata for Unaccompanied Violin Native Informant, from 2011) and Earl Maneein (Be12(OH)12(BTB)4 Metal Organic Framework, from 2014). The concert will be hosted by Neighborhood Classics Founder and Artistic Director Simone Dinnerstein. All ticket sales for this one-hour, family-friendly concert benefit P.S. 321.

Bang on a Can: From the Margins, a concert featuring recent MacArthur "Genius" Fellowship recipient Steve Coleman & Friends, will take place at the Jewish Museum on Thursday, November 6 at 7:30pm. Tied to the Museum exhibition From the Margins: Lee Krasner I Norman Lewis, 1945-1952, which features innovative works by two powerful abstract painters, the performance will highlight the relationship between Abstract Expressionism and jazz in mid-century New York City. This program is the second concert of the Jewish Museum and Bang on a Can's partnership to produce a series of dynamic musical performances at the Museum from June 2014 to May 2015, inspired by the Jewish Museum's diverse slate of exhibitions.

World Premiere of Richard Schechner's IMAGINING O Set for 9/10-13 at Peak Performances

Watch out! Richard Schechner returns, armed with another series of shocks and surprises: the world premiere of "Imagining O" at Peak Performances, September 10-13. Transforming the notoriously erotic French novel "Story of O" into a multi-site, immersive production, the 80 year-old director's most recent work promises to reaffirm Peak's commitment to the ultra and outre challenge, and the director's reputation for creating uncomfortable joy in his audiences. The show opens the Kasser Theater's 10th anniversary season.

FringeArts Sets Free Late-Night Festival Bar Entertainment

Opening Night of the 18th Annual Philadelphia Fringe Festival (Sept 5, 2014), will launch three weeks of free late-night comedy, theater and music at FringeArts' permanent home at 140 N. Columbus Blvd. (at Race Street). The late-night lineup will feature local favorites and international performers each night of the 2014 Fringe Festival (Sept. 5-21).

Cellist Maya Beiser to Release Next Album, UNCOVERED, 8/26

"Cello goddess" (The New Yorker) Maya Beiser releases her next album Uncovered on August 26, 2014 on the Innova label, followed by aUS tour in September 2014 to cities including New York, Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and more (tour schedule to be announced in early July). Uncovered is an album of startling classic rock tunes, re-imagined and re-contextualized, in stunningly moving performances by Maya Beiser. A cover tune can be an homage to the original, but these "uncovers," in new arrangements by Evan Ziporyn, attempt to do more - to evoke the unprecedented power of the music of Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Janis Joplin, Howlin' Wolf, King Crimson, Muddy Waters, and AC/DC as musical masterpieces and as totems of our collective consciousness.

FringeArts Announces 2014 Fringe Festival Programming
