Ann Arbor's Penny Seats Theatre Company is set to open its sixth summer season at West Park, performing outdoor professional theatre at movie-ticket prices, on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays throughout June and July. This year, the group's season will open with a modern adaption of Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales (by Lindsay Price), followed by the 2007 Broadway musical smash, Xanadu (based on the 1980 cult classic movie of the same name), with a book by Douglas Carter Beane and music and lyrics by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar.

Five years after the runaway success of SONGS FOR NOBODIES, Joanna Murray-Smith, Bernadette Robinson and Simon Phillips team up once again with PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE a brilliant one woman musical theatre piece returning to Melbourne on Thursday January 21, 2016 for a limited season at the Playhouse, Arts Centre.

?The Penny Seats return to the stage this upcoming winter for Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, a musical revue of the songs of Jacques Brel, translated into English by Eric Blau and Mort Shuman. The show kicks off the sixth season for The Penny Seats and will run on Thursdays February 11th, 18th, 25th, and March 3rd, at Conor O'Neill's Irish Pub and Restaurant, 318 South Main Street, Ann Arbor. The two companies are partnering to offer a dinner theatre-style show, with dinner seatings available starting at 6:00 pm, and performances each night at 7:30pm. Audience members can purchase tickets for the dinner-and-show package for just $20, or for the show only, for $10. 'Urinetown: The Musical!,' the Tony-award-winning hit from 2001, will be performed by Ann Arbor's Penny Seats Theatre Company July 30, 31, Aug 1, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, and 15. Set in an admittedly absurd dystopian future where one must pay to pee, the show lampoons corporate bureaucracy, pie-in-the-sky optimism, revolution without a plan, and the musical theatre genre itself. With a full pit orchestra (led by Richard Alder) on the band shell stage, the action takes place around the audience in the park. Ann Arbor's Penny Seats Theatre Company significantly expands summer offerings Ann Arbor's Penny Seats Theatre Company is set to open its fifth--and biggest--summer season at West Park, performing outdoor professional theatre for just $10 (or less) per ticket, on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays (and one Sunday) throughout July and August. This year, the group takes up residence at the park for six weeks, performing two blockbuster comedies: The Complete Works of William Shakespeare [Abridged], by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield, and Urinetown: The Musical! by Mark Hollmann and Greg Kotis.

ONE of Australia's most celebrated recent plays, part of the current drama curriculum for Year 11 and 12 students, is being brought to life by ARENAarts (note to subs: this is correct) this autumn.

Recognized as one of the world's most influential bands in rock music, Grammy-winning multi-platinum selling band Soundgarden started a musical transformation that inspired a generation in its record-breaking career, leaving an indelible mark by helping redefine alternative and hard rock.

Through the month of October, The Penny Seats enjoyed a sold-out run of the musical revue Tomfoolery, celebrating the words and music of satirist, mathematician, and cult favorite, Tom Lehrer, at Ann Arbor's Conor O'Neill's Irish Pub and Restaurant, 318 South Main Street, Ann Arbor. The two companies have partnered to offer this cabaret-style show, with dinner seatings available starting around 6:00 pm, and performances at 8:00pm. Due to high demand, an additional performance date has been added: November 9.

Musical Tom Foolery will be performed at Conor O'Neills by Ann Arbor's The Penny Seats the first four Thursdays, beginning today, Oct 2 and running through the 23rd.

The Penny Seats return to the stage this October with the musical revue Tomfoolery, celebrating the words and music of satirist, mathematician, and cult favorite, Tom Lehrer. The production also includes an opening short—a 5-minute mini-musical called Volcanoes!!—composed by Ann Arbor's Zach London, who cites Lehrer as an early inspiration.
