With all due respect to Kelli O'Hara, Paulo Szot, director Bartlett Sher and even Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein II and Joshua Logan, the real star of the Lincoln Center revival of South Pacific is orchestrator Robert Russell Bennett, whose sublime work from the original 1949 production is now enchanting contemporary audiences.

The Riverdale Y's Jr. Rising Stars children's theater company begins its third season with the high flying musical of Peter Pan; opening Thursday, January 15, at 7pm. The show will run Saturdays, January 17, and 24, at 7:00 pm; and Sundays, January 18, and 24, at 7 pm; and Thursday, January 22, at 7pm. Matinees are offered on Sundays, January 18, and 24, at 2 pm.

20th Century Fox 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'South Pacific: 50th Anniversary Edition' to Blu-ray on March 31st, day-and-date with the DVD re-release. This two disc set will present both the theatrical and roadshow versions of the film utilizing 2.20:1 1080p video accompanied by a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

After extensive development in New York at the York Theatre and the Vineyard Theatre, the world premiere of the musical 'The Medium at Large' took place Sunday afternoon, October 19, 2008, at the Village Players Performing Arts Center in Oak Park, Illinois, just over Chicago's western border. Starring Tony Award nominee John Herrera (Neville in 'The Mystery of Edwin Drood') as the titular spiritualist, the show shows promise in negotiating a tricky premise and an even trickier payoff.

Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt are the Honorees of the 28th annual William Inge Theatre Festival in Independence, Kansas. Jones and Schmidt-perhaps best known for 'The Fantasticks,' the longest running musical in history-will receive the Inge Festival's Distinguished Achievement in the American Theatre Award during the festival, which runs April 22-25, 2009.

It's easy to remember seeing Mary Martin, Ethel Merman, Alfred Drake or Joel Grey because these stars contributed exemplary work in leading roles. However, a book could be written about actors who create vivid impressions in our minds while playing supporting roles in memorable shows. There is no greater example of such an actor than Mary Louise Wilson.
