There's little drama to be had in first-time playwright George Stevens, Jr's solo play, Thurgood, a textbook review of the career of civil rights attorney and eventual U.S. Supreme Court JustIce Thurgood Marshall. Set at the Howard University Law School Auditorium with The Playgoers serving as the title character's audience, the ninety minute piece offers a chronological telling of his personal history without much happening in the immediate present. It's a bit like watching a historical documentary of a familiar story with none of that great archival footage.

Primary Stages concludes the 2008-2009 season with the world premiere of the comedy Chasing Manet by Tina Howe (March 24, 2009 - May 2, 2009), featuring Tony Award-Winner Jane Alexander and Lynn Cohen. The Stage Society presented the play in 1901 but it was not seen again until the Royal Shakespeare Company produced it in 1975 with Mia Farrow in the title role. 'Its absence from the stage for more than two generations was unfortunate for English drama:' writes Dennis Kennedy in Granville Barker and the Dream of Theater, 'It is an extraordinary piece...' The play has never been produced in the U.S.

LUCINDA COXON, author of the critically-acclaimed new play HAPPY NOW?, currently receiving its American premiere at Yale Repertory Theatre, has written the screenplay for The Danish Girl, based on David Ebershoff's novel, which will star Nicole Kidman (who will also produce the film) and Charlize Theron.

The National Playwrights Conference continues with two new projects, THE LEGEND OF MINNIE WILLET and WITHOUT YOU.

Actress Mary Bacon is currently starring as Alma Winemiller in TACT's production of the Tennessee Williams masterpiece, Eccentricities of a Nightingale- the first time the production has been performed in New York in thirty years.
