Nominees Announced for Sage Awards

Minnesota's dance community will gather Tuesday, September 14, 2010, for an evening of award-winning performances and celebration to honor outstanding achievements in dance for 2009/10. The 6th annual SAGE Awards for Dance will recognize artists whose work represents a variety of forms and styles, transcends expectations and reflects our times. Mary Ellen Childs, a past SAGE recipient, will host this year's gala event at the Southern Theater.

Lamb, d' Amboise, MacLeod Hold Master Classes at DNA

Dance New Amsterdam (DNA) will offer a series of musical theater master classes in September 2010. A trio of Broadway dance luminaries, Charlotte d'Amboise, Mary Ann Lamb and Mary MacLeod, will focus on technique and choreography from Broadway masters for whom they have danced such as Jerome Robbins, Bob Fosse, and Michael Bennett.

Carrollwood Cultural Center Presents ART IN ABUNDANCE, 9/2-9/29

A visual arts show in celebration of life and healing. Artists from the Tampa Bay area will present ethereal and spiritual art, in the high key value range. The show commemorates Mary Ann Scialdo, the Center's artistic director, who passed away from cancer this summer, and all whose lives have been touched by illness. As a symbol of hope, the Center will be decorated with strings of origami cranes.

NVOH Holds ALL JAZZED UP Gala, 9/19

The Napa Valley Opera House has announced a spectacular array of 23 items to be auctioned off at its annual Gala on Sunday, September 19. This year there are several 'pizzazzy' parties for party lovers - including one with Tyler Florence. For travelers, trips laced with adventure, luxury, cuisine, and culture are offered. To call them 'tantalizing' is an understatement - Turkey, Cuba, Italy, Jackson Hole, Chicago, LA and a Lakers' game. Below is an overview of the lots currently up for bid. Washinton University Brings DANCE CLOSE UP to the Annelise Dance Studio 9/9-9/11

Multimedia solos and structured improvisations will share the stage with Flamenco and classical Indian works in DANCE CLOSE UP, the biennial concert of new and original choreography by faculty in the Dance Program in Washington University's Performing Arts Department in Arts & Sciences. Performances begin at 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Sept. 9 and 10; and at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11.

International Center of Photography Announces Exhibitions from 9/24

The Mexican Suitcase, a groundbreaking exhibition revealing the most famous group of recovered negatives of the twentieth century, will be on view at the International Center of Photography (1133 Avenue of the Americas at 43rd Street) from September 24, 2010 through January 9, 2011. Considered lost since 1939, the so-called Mexican Suitcase is in fact three boxes containing 4,500 negatives documenting the Spanish Civil War by Robert Capa, Chim (David Seymour), and Gerda Taro. There are also several rolls of portraits of Capa and Taro by Fred Stein. Besides offering new images by these major photographers that provide a comprehensive overview of the war, the cache of negatives also includes previously unknown portraits of Ernest Hemingway, Federico Garcia Lorca, and Dolores Ibarruri (known as 'La Pasionaria').
