Big Apple Circus Embraces Autism with Special 11/17 Performance

Big Apple Circus has joined with world-renowned Autism Spectrum Disorders experts to adapt THE GRAND TOUR for families with members on the spectrum and create a joyful experience for all. The adapted show includes the same world-class artistry as the full performance with a shorter running time, adjusted lights and sound, a calming center, pictorial social narratives, and specially trained staff and volunteers to assure a memorable event for everyone! Dark Comedy DEAD AND BREATHING Begins Performances Off-Broadway in October

Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's NATIONAL BLACK THEATRE, the oldest continually operating black theater in New York, will present the New York City Premiere of DEAD AND BREATHING by GLAAD Media Award winner Chisa Hutchinson (She Like Girls). Directed by Obie winner Jonathan McCrory, previews begin October 28 with press opening set for November 5. NOTE: this limited engagement is produced on an Off-Broadway contract.

Big Apple Circus returns to the Big Top at Lincoln Center for the company's 38th season with the World Premiere of its all-new show, The GrandTour! ORPHEUS & EURYDICE written and directed by Tom Dugdale (Humana Festival; Contemporary American Theater Festival; Hungarian Theater of Cluj; Princess Grace Award Winner), will play five performances at Theaterlab NYC (357 West 36th Street, 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10018). Performances are Thursday, July 16th  at 8pm; Friday, July 17th at 8pm; Saturday, July 18th at 8pm; Sunday, July 19th at 3pm; and Monday, July 20th at 8pm. Stage Adaptation of COOL HAND LUKE to Play 59E59 Theaters

Due to unforeseen circumstances, BRITANNIA WAVES THE RULES has pulled out of the 2015 Brits Off Broadway festival at 59E59 Theaters. Replacing the show is Godlight Theatre Company's production of COOL HAND LUKE, an adaptation of Donn Pearce's searing novel. This production is not part of Brits Off Broadway. COOL HAND LUKE is adapted for the stage by Emma Reeves and directed by Joe Tantalo. COOL HAND LUKE begins performances on Tuesday, May 5 for a limited engagement through Sunday, May 31. Press opening is Thursday, May 7 at 7:15 PM. The performance schedule is Tuesday - Thursday at 7:15 PM; Friday at 8:15 PM; Saturday at 2:15 PM & 8:15 PM; and Sunday at 3:15 PM. Performances are at 59E59 Theaters (59 East 59th Street, between Park and Madison Avenues). Tickets are $30 ($21 for 59E59 Members). NJCU to Present SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE, Begin. 3/20

The New Jersey City University Caroline L. Guarini Department of Music, Dance and Theatre will present 'Smokey Joe's Cafe,' Friday, March 20 through Sunday, March 22 and Thursday, March 26 through Saturday, March 28, in Margaret Williams Theatre of Hepburn Hall, on the University campus at 2039 Kennedy Boulevard in Jersey City.

Parallel Exit to Present EVERYBODY GETS CAKE at 59E59 Theaters

59E59 Theaters will host the New York premiere of EVERYBODY GETS CAKE!, created and performed by Joel Jeske, Danny Gardner and Brent McBeth, and directed by Mark Lonergan. Produced by Parallel Exit, EVERYBODY GETS CAKE! begins performances on Friday, January 16 for a limited engagement through Sunday, February 8.

BWW Reviews: An Uneven SWEENEY TODD Opens Virginia Opera Company's 40th Season

When Stephen Powell's Sweeney Todd lunges at the audience in vengeful anger declaring, "No ones in the chair, come on! Come on! Sweeney's waiting, I want you bleeders," It's hard to think of anything more thrilling. And yet, Powell's performance along with a glorious 28 piece orchestra only partially makes-up for the Virginia Opera Company's rather uneven production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
