National Sawdust+ presents ELEMENTS OF TIME + TASTE

National Sawdust+ presents Elements of Time + Taste: A night of inventive food, mixology, and music on Thursday, September 28, at 7:30pm. Two Williamsburg culinary and mixology notables,Patrick Connolly (Rider's James Beard award-winning chef/owner) and Allen Katz (the so-called cocktail world enigma of New York Distilling Company), will create a tantalizing experience for the palate, joining forces with a lineup of remarkable composer-musicians including singer Magos Herrera, multi-instrumentalist Yuka C. Honda (of Cibo Matto, or Food Madness, fame), and the evening's music director, pianist Oded Lev-Ari, who leads the ensemble. Together, they are dreaming up an evening that explores the four natural elements through curated pairings of music, libations, and delectable bites. Ranging from tango to electronic music to Mexican folk song, the musical program will include the world premiere of Chopping Music and a piece inspired by the humble juniper berry.

BWW Review: ERWIN SCHULHOFF RETROSPECTIVE Swings at Center for Jewish History

Recently honored as a Lower East Side Community Hero, pianist Mimi Stern-Wolfe walked onstage on the evening of May 25th 2016 at the Center for Jewish History in NYC. She is the founder and artistic director of Downtown Chamber Players and the recipient of the 2015 Clara Lemlich Award. And she did not speak a word. Her fingers recited history in Tango, Charleston, Waltz, Foxtrot, Blues, Maxixe.

Creative Music Studio to Hold Spring 2015 Workshop

Ray Anderson, Sarah Weaver To Perform THE POINT BEING, SLIDERIDE, 2/23

In a new dynamic collaboration, Ray Anderson and Sarah Weaver pose the great question, 'What is the point of being'? in a large-ensemble piece that explores the primary, universal concern of metaphysics through metaphorical, existential, humorous, emotional, and multidimensional perspectives. Featuring a powerhouse ensemble comprised of some of the finest improvisational performers today, The Point Being aspires to move from inner awareness to inner peace, and on then to a more peaceful world. The Point Being is presented with support from the Faculty in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (FAHSS) Research Initiatives Fund, Stony Brook University.

They will be performing 'The Point Being' featuring Ray Anderson, trombone, voice, Sarah Weaver, conductor, with: Jane Ira Bloom, soprano saxophone; Oliver Lake, alto saxophone; James Zollar, trumpet; Uri Caine, piano; Mark Helias, bass; Gerald Cleaver, drums and for the second set 'Slideride' featuring Ray Anderson, Craig Harris, Art Baron, Earl McIntyre, trombones.

Roulette Presents Bill Horvitz Expanded Band CD THE LONG WALK Tonight

Roulette presents the 17-piece The Bill Horvitz Expanded Band performing music from the new CD, The Long Walk, a suite of pieces composed as a tribute to Bill's brother Philip Horvitz, who passed away of heart failure in 2005 at the age of 44. The music includes a wide range of styles drawing on jazz, funk, folk, and new music. The concert is set for tonight, June 30, 2013 at 6 p.m.

Mat Maneri Trio to Play Cornelia Street Cafe, Today

Cornelia Street Cafe presents the Mat Maneri Trio featuring Mat Maneri, viola, Ed Schuller, bass and Randy Peterson, drums. This concert will be the 20 year anniversary of this contrapuntal trio who will be playing a collection of music from their past 3 recordings as well as new material. The trio have worked together over the years to try and push the boundaries of what a jazz trio can be, incorporating fresh ways of interpreting modern classical, swing and other forms of music.

Michel Camilo Replaces Gato Barbieri at Blue Note Performances, 12/3 & 4

Gato Barbieri has had to cancel tonight's and tomorrow's performances at the Blue Note. In his place will be the Michel Camilo Trio featuring Cliff Almond (drums) and Lincoln Goines (bass). The performances will take place today & Tuesday, December 3 & 4, 8 pm & 10:30 pm at The Blue Note located at 131 West 3rd Street, New York, NY 10012. Tickets are priced at $45 table seats, $30 at the bar.
