Showtime Networks Inc. has announced that Geoff Stier has joined the company as Senior Vice President, Original Programming. Stier will help develop and shepherd original comedies, dramas and limited series for the network. He will be based in the SHOWTIME West Coast offices. The announcement was made today by Amy Israel, Executive Vice President, Scripted Programming, Showtime Networks Inc. to whom he will report.
Prolific composer/conductor Matthias Pintscher curates Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra's (LACO) SESSION, an innovative performance experience, in collaboration with Four Larks, on Thursday February 28, 8 pm, at Mack Sennett Studios in Silverlake. Designed to explore classical music's cutting-edge sounds and challenge traditional concert-going expectations, the evening features two works by Pintscher, Study II for Treatise on the Veil, a string trio inspired by painter Cy Twombly's art works, and Uriel, for cello and piano, the third part of his 'Profiles of Light' cycle. Also on the program are three-time Grammy Award-winning soprano Michelle DeYoung and LACO artists performing Ravel's Three Poemes de Stephane Mallarme; Berg's Four pieces for clarinet and piano; Grisey's surreal Stele for two percussionists and Xenakis's Rebonds A, a tour-de-force for solo percussion. SESSION includes a 'hang' with the artists, and premium tickets include parking and one drink as well. Mack Sennett Studios, where artists like Martin Scorsese, David Lynch, Lady Gaga, John Legend, Donna Summer and Jay-Z have performed, is a historic facility that serves as a soundstage, event space and a hub for a variety of cultural producers.
“Bohemian Rhapsody” (edited by John Ottman, ACE) and “The Favourite” (edited by Yorgos Mavropsaridis, ACE) won Best Edited Feature Film (Dramatic) and Best Edited Feature Film (Comedy) respectively at the 69th Annual ACE Eddie Awards tonight where trophies were handed out recognizing the best editing of 2018 in 11 categories of film, television and documentaries. The black-tie ceremony was held in the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel with over 1000 in attendance to celebrate. Following the 2pm performance of Frost/Nixon on Saturday, February 2 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, audiences are invited to discuss the history and current relevance of the Watergate scandal with Dr. Theodore Glasser of Stanford University and Dr. Terri Bimes of University of California Berkeley in a conversation moderated by Cameron Wells, the assistant director of Frost/Nixon. Glasser, a professor emeritus of Communication whose research specializes in media practices and press accountability, and Bimes, a lecturer and Assistant Director of Research for the Institute of Governmental Studies who teaches about the presidency, will bring their unique perspectives to this free political forum, open to audience members and community members.
